Description

W. H. BENSOEN.
Devices for Transferring Motion.
No. 140,873, Patentedjuly.i5,1873r IL Hg.
I M II AM. PHOTU-l/THOGRAPHIC 00. N1 assure/15:9 PnqcEssj UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. BENSON, OF WAYNESBORQUGH, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR TRANS FERRING MOTION.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,878, dated July 15, 1873; application filed March 22,1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. H. BENSON, of
Waynesborough, in the county of Augusta and State of Virginia, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Devices for Transferring Motion and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference beinghad tothe annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon. Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a top view of .my device for transferring motion. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. i
This invention has relation to means for transferring motion from one shaft to another in an opposite direction; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of a connecting lever, slotted at the middle and at one end longitudinally to play upon a fixed pin, and connected at its ends to crank-arms secured to the shafts.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designatesthe crank-armor one shaft, A, and B tlie crank-arm of the other, B. (J indicates a fixed standard located about midcrank-arms.
way between the shafts, in line between the This standard is provided, near its upper end, with a stud or pin, 0. D represents the connecting-bar, slotted longitudinally along its middle portion at a, for connection with the pin 0 of the standard 0. One end of the connecting-bar is pivoted to the crank-arm of one shaft at d, and the other end is provided with a short slot, 11, which is connected with the pin 0 of the crank-arm of the other shaft.
When the shaft A is put in motion it will be communicated by the connecting-lever D to the shaft B, the rotation of the shafts being in opposite directions.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The sliding lever D, slotted at a and b, in combination with the guide-pin c and the gralnk-arms A and B, substantially as speci- In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
