Be it known that Lnwis G. CoWLns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yutan, in the county of Saunders and State of Nebraska, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Erasers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The invention relates to erasers, preferably of the type used for cleaning blaclrboards and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a plurality of T- shaped cleaning elements which are held on an eraser back by means of T-shaped cleats, thereby providing means whereby any of the T-shaped cleaning elements may be renewed as desired, and also providing an eraser which may be easily and quickly constructed, particularly quickly assembled.

A further object is to provide a wire mesh beater for use in connection with the eraser so as to beat and clean the eraser, thereby obviating the common practice of beating together two erasers, which operation obviously does not completely clean the eraser.

lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the eraser. Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the cleaning elements.

Figure 4: is a top plan view of the beater.

Figure 5 is a side elevation of the beater.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the eraser, and Zthe back thereof. The back is preferably rectangular shaped as shown and has secured thereto, by means of brads 3, T-shaped strips 4, which strips are spaced apart and are adapted to receive therebetween T-shaped cleaning elements 5. The horizontal flanges of the strips 4 overlie the horizontal flanges 6 of the cleaning elements thereby securely holding the cleaning elements against displacement. It will be seen that any of the cleaning elements which may become, worn may be easily removed and replaced by simply removing the retaining strip i adjacent the worn cleaning element, and then a new cleaning element may be placed in position and the strip again secured to the back 2. It will also be seen that an eraser is provided which is simple in construction and one which may be cheaply made and quicklv assembled. Referring to the beater the numeral 9 designates a rectangular shaped body formed of wire, having interwoven wire 10 so. that when the portion 9 engages the cleaning elements 5 during the beating operation, the dust from the eraser will be allowed to escape to the atmosphere. Extending upwardly from the rear end of the rectangularly shaped body member 9 are brace wires 11, which have their ends imbedded'as at 12 in a handle member 13, adapted to be grasped by the hand of the operator during a cleaning operation.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A cleaning eraser comprising a rigid body member, said body member having secured to one side thereof a plurality of T-shaped transversely disposed strips in parallel relation to each other and spaced apart, thereby forming transversely disposed T-shaped slots, and a plurality of T-shaped cieaning elements disposed in said T-shaped s ots.

2. A cleaning eraser comprising a rigid body member, a plurality of T-shaped transversely disposed strips in parallel relation to each other and detachably secured to the rigid body member at equal distances from each other, said T-shaped members having their opposite flanges in horizontal relation to the rigid body member, and their other flange detachably secured to the rigid body member thereby forming T-shaped slots and a plurality of T'shaped cleaning elements disposed in the T-shaped slots and held therein against displacement by the T shaped strips.
