ATTORNEY UNITED STATES EDWARD K. LINCOLN, OF NEW YORK, N.-Y.
SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, 1922.
Application filed August 27, 1920. Serial No. 406,468.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD K. LINCOLN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Screens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in screens covering portable fire extinguishers which present an unsightly appearance when hanging on the walls of a room, and the principal object is to provide an orna mental device of this nature which shall be provided with supporting means that shall not preclude the possibility of getting at the extinguisher easily and quickly.
With this and incidental objects in view the invention consists in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and claimed and which are fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing comprising one sheet, in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my improved screen.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the rear of the same. I
Figure 3 is a detail view of the upper fastening device.
Figure I is a detail view of the lower fastening device.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts throughout.
There are on the market at the present time a variety of small fire extinguishers which many persons would like to install in the various rooms of their houses but are prevented from doing so on account of the ugly or unsightly appearances which these articles present. The present invention contemplates providing an ornamental screen for covering fire extinguishers, said screen provided with means for readily suspending it from the ordinary commercial extinguisher, which means is of such a character as to offer little or no resistance to rapid removal in case it is necessary to use the extinguisher.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a semi-cylindrical body portion provided at its top and bottom with end sections 2 and 3 respectively. The covering at is pasted over the front and ends and is provided with some decoration in harmony with the other fittings of the room in which it is to be used. Covering lextends in rear to form flanges 5 which are to rest against the wall.
All of the extinguishers now on the market are constructed to be supported from their upper ends by screws or some similar device whereby they are automatically opened by tearing the extinguisher from its place. In the present instance a holder 6 of metal or the like is provided with a notch 7 for straddling this screw or other device. The member 6 is bent at 8, 9, and 10 so as to form a friction grip for the top 2 of the covering. However, if desired I may rivet or screw member 6 to the top in any other desirable manner.
Secured to the bottom by a pin 11 or like device is a rubber band 12 which is adapted to be slipped about the body of the extinguisher.
It will be readily understood that in case of a fire the screen could be easily and quickly removed from the extinguisher so as to cause little or no loss of time in securing and using the extinguisher.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention; and I therefore, do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claim.
lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is In testimony whereof I have afiixed my 106 signature EDWARD K. LINCOLN.
