BLANK-LOCATING- DEVICE.
menses,
Applicationfiled September 22, 1919, Serial No. 325,449.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM NovIoK, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blank-Locating Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to blank locating devices, particularly adapted for use in connection with blank feeding mechanisms, such for instance as shown in my U. S. Patent No. 1,296,690, of March 11, 1919. The object of my improvements is to provide a device of the class specified which is eflicient to correct the natural tendency of the rear ends of the blanks to deviate laterally one way or the other from their desired path of travel under the action of the feeding mechanism while being withdrawn one by one from the pile of blanks.
With this object in view my improvements comprise features illustrated in their pre ferred embodiment in the drawing accompanying this specification, wherein the figure shows a plan view of so much of a blank locating device as will suffice to illustrate my improvements.
Referring thereto, 2, 3 represent opposite side-rails connected by rear-rail 45. Front rail 5 is preferably adjustably fixed to said side-rails, so as to accommodate blanks of different sizes. Slidably mounted on said rail 5 are opposite brackets 6, 7 carrying guide- posts 8, 9, respectively. Said brackets may be secured in adjusted positions by 7 screws 10. Parallel with front-rail 5 and located near rear-rail 4. is transverse slide 11 on which are adjustably fixed brackets 12, 13 carrying guide- posts 14, 15, respectively, all similar to the guide posts and their brackets on rail 5. Said guide posts are efiicient for locating one or more blanks 25 supported on table 16 parallel with rail 5 and slide 11. Said table may be supported and raised or lowered from time to time by some known means, not shown. The character of blank illustrated has four notched corners, which are engaged by said posts, and which blank is adapted to be folded into an envelope.
Slide 11 is conveniently mounted under straps 17, 18 on rails 2, 3, respectively, for transverse movement in the direction of its length in parallelism with the blank and in substantial parallelism with rail 5. For thus movingslide 11 shaft 19 rotatably mounted in ears 20, 20 outstanding from rail 3 is provided. Said shaft has fixed to its rear end gear 21, in engagement with rack 22,
fixed to the'overhanging portion of slide 11,
and to its front end hand-wheel 23. Thus by turning said hand-wheel to the right, slide 11 and posts 14, 15 will be shifted to the left, carrying the tail-ends 25 of blanks 25 therewith; by turning said hand-wheel to the left the tails of the blanks will be shifted to the right. There is thereby pro vided a mobile and effective adjustment for the blanks, whereby any tendency to advance in skewed position is corrected. Also said adjustment, one way or the other, may be made while the machine, to which the device is applied, is running, and without in any way deranging its operation.
I claim:
1. In a blank locating device the combination of means for locating one end of the blank, means for locating the other end of the blank relatively to said first end, and means for moving laterally said last men tioned locating means.
2. In a blank locating device the combination of two fixed posts for locating one end of the blank, two other posts fixed relatively to each other for locating the other end of the blank, and hand operated means for moving transversely said other posts in unison for adjusting the location of said other end of the blank.
3. In a blank locating device the combination of means for locating one end of the blank, means for locating the other end of the blank, a slide mounted for movement transversely in the plane of the blank, said means for locating the other end of the blank being carried by said slide, and means for moving said slide.
4:. In a device for locating a blank having four notched corners, two fixed posts for engagement with two of the notched corners, respectively, two other posts for engagement with the other two notched corners, respectively, of the blank, a slide'mounted for movement transversely in the plane of the blank, said two other posts being carried by said slide, and hand operated means for moving said slide.
5. In a device for locating a blank having four symmetrically disposed notched corners, two adjust-ably fixed posts for engagement with two of the notched corners, respectively, a slide mounted for movement in the plane of the blank and in a line parallel with a line through the axes of said two posts, two other posts adjustably mounted on said slide for engagement with the other two notched corners, respectively, of the blank, and means for movin said slide.
6. In a blank locating device the combination of means for locating the blank, and means for adjusting said locating means for correcting angular deviation of the blank from its desired path of travel.
7 In a blank locating device the combination of means for locating one end-of the blank, means for locating-the other end of the blank, and means for adjusting said last mentioned means for correcting lateral deviation of the blank from its desired path of travel.
8. Ina blank locating device the combina tion of means for locating one end of the
