JOHN SZIGETI, OFTORRINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
ICE-CRACKING ox.
Application filed May 1,
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, JOHN SZIGETI, a citizen of Hungary, residin at Torrington, county of Litchfield, and tate of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Crackin Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for breaking or cracking ice into relatively small bits, and has as its special object the provision of means whereby blocks of ice may be broken or disintegrated into particles of any desired size such as are used in freezing icecream and like purposes.
A further object is to provide a substantial tub in which the ice to be broken may be placed in which operate breaker heads of considerable weight so that their momentum added to the eifort of the operator, readily break the ice into desired bits.
These and other like objects, which will become more fully manifest as the descrip tion progresses, are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described andshown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevational view showing an ice cracking tub made in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 isa vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the cutter head.
Fig. 5 is a detail side view of the elements securing the top part of the box to its bottom part.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a cylindrical tub or tank having an integrally formed bottom 11, on which is placed a disc or plate 12 of wood or other relatively soft substance. l
The upper open end of the tank 10 has an enlargement, containing an annular recess 14 and is provided with pairs of handles 15, by which the tank may be readily raised and transported.
Engaged in the recess 14 is the lower edge of a cover 16, the same being curved in the manner of a cone, and provided with handles 17 by which it may be raised or otherwise Specification of Letters Patent. Patented F b 14 1922 1919. Serial No. 294,050.
maneuvered. the cover has a raised annular extension 19 .from which extends a hub 20, having a con 7 tral bored opening 21, through which freely passes a plunger rod 22, engaged with a cap 23, secured by the pin 24 and provided with oppositely extending handles 25 adapted for manual operation. Extending between the outer end of the hub 20 and the cap 23 1s a coiled compression spring 26. adapted to hold the plunger rod in a nor mally raised position.
Secured upon the lower end of the plunger rod 22 is a rectangular head 28, and fixed upon its four sides, by screws 29, are the upper ends of the breaker elements 30, having lower depending edges bevelled on both sides to a central line 33.
Hook shaped catches 26 are pivotally secured by the pins 36 to the outer wall of the cover 16 their lower ends 37 being engageable with pins 88, rigidly fixed in the wall of the cylindrical tank 10, thus when the cap or cover is placed in position on the tank 1t may be firmly engaged therewith by properly manipulating the hooks or disengaged in an obvious manner.
In operation, the cover having been removed, together with the breaker head engaged therewith, the block of ice to be broken is placed in the tub on the surface 12, the cover replaced in position, the hooks engaged so as to secure the parts together, and the handles operated in an obvious manner, it being possible to rotate the same as well as to raise and lower the breakers, the weight of which is partially counterbalanced by the spring 26.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, the construction and operation of the device are thought to be evident.
Having thus described my invention what The closed upper portion of I claim as new and desire to secure by Letr V elled on both sides to a central line se eur'ed to each side of said head grooved around said plunger and adapted to crush Withthei': lowerendsthe ice at the Walls of the lower part, and means for operatingsaid lunger.
In'testim'ony whereof I have a Xed my signature.
