Be it known that I-Gaonoa HARDY, a subject of the King-of reat Britain,residing atPont Rouge, rovin'ce of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and usefu Improvements in Paste Regulators for Paper Making Machines; and do hereby dec are that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates toapparatuses for regulating the flow of paste to paper making machines and is a continuation of my former Patent No. 1,322,016, dated November 18, 1919. I
The purpose of the present invention is to generally improve such regulators whereby the flow. of paste will be under better control so that paste of various consistencies may be delivered in the proper amounts to the paper making machine.
A further object of the invention is to provide an automatic controlled apparatus for regulating the flow of paste to the paper eets of paper 0 uniform thickness will be continuously made throughout the manufacture thereof and one which may beadjusted so that sheets of paper of various thickness may be produced.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as 'the de-. scription continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings wherein like and correspondingparts are designated by similar reference characters throughout'the sev- -cral views.
The numeral 1 indicates a paste reservoir g or tank in which the paste is stored or mixed before being formed into paper. This reserthe 'usual outlet spout 2 having connected thereto the upper end of an outlet pipe or elbow 3. Secured as at 4.

to the outer end of the elbow is a vertical basin 5 having its upper end terminating below the paste line within thereservoir. Surrounding this basin 5 is a trough 6 having an outlet or spout 7 from which the paste travels to the paper making machine. The lower portion of the elbow 3 is provided with a drain opening closed by a plug 8 whereby any paste trapped within the elbow or water drained therefrom.
From this paste may be removed when cleaning the same. conveying means it will be understood that the paste may flow from the reservoir l to the paper making machine.
The present invention resides in means for keeping the paste under automatic control while being so conveyed. Arranged within the spout 2 is gate valve 9 comprising an angular plate pivotally supported on a horizontal shaft 10 journalled within suitable bearings carried by the reservoir 1. Piv-" otally connected to this shaft 10 is an arm or bar, 11 having an internally threaded sleeve 12 through which extends an adjustable bolt 13 and the lower end of this bolt 9. The flow of the paste fromthe reservoir normally tends to open this gate and the opened position of the gate is limited by the bolt '13. The outer end of the bar 11 is provided with an enlarged slotted end 14 in which is adjustably' through the slot and pin connection 23 to the lever 17 and a float 24 is carried by the lower end of this rod 22. This float extends within the basin 5 and rises or lowers within the paste according to the latters specific gravity and the vertical movement of this float controls the opening and closing of the ate 9.

- voir to the basin the float will descend whereby the gate valves will be opened freely, but if a heavy mixture of paste is provided in the reservoir the float will rise thereby closing the valves limiting the flow of the paste and in this manner the required amount of paste flowing to the paper making machine will be under automatic control so that sheets of paper of the same thickness will be made throughout its manufacture.
The. desired thickness of the sheets of paper can be obtained by adjusting the rod 35 or the link 15.
The operator, when knowing the consistency of the paste within the reservoir may adjust the gates through the'bolts 13 or 27 so that the required amount of paste will flow from the reservoir.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A paste regulator for paper making machinescomprising a reservoir, ,an outlet leading therefrom, a basin attached to said outlet, a gate arranged within the outlet and consisting of angularly disposed integral sections, a float disposed above the upper'end of the basin and extending therein, an arm actuated by the float, a rod pivoted to the gate and adjustably connected to the arm for adjustably supporting the gate, and means operatively connecting the arm with the float.

The combination with a paste reservoir having an outlet, a gate including two angular integral sections arranged Within said outlet, a float, an arm adjustably connected to said gate, a threaded rod attached to the gate and passim through the arm for adustably connecting the gate and the arm, and means for connecting said arm to the float.
4. A paste regulator for paper making machines comprising a reservoir, an outlet pipe leading from the said reservoir, a basin carried by the outlet pipe, a pivotally supported gate disposed within the outlet pipe, said gate including angularly disposed integral sections, a pivotally supported arm. a rod passing through said arm and pivotally connected to the gate for adjustably connecting the gate to the arm, a bracket sup ported by the outlet pipe, a lever pivotally connected to said bracket, said lever and arm having longitudinally disposed slots formed therein, a link adjustably connecting said lever and arm and slidable in said slots, screw elements passing through the slots and ends of the link for adjusting the latter, a float arranged within said reservoir,
and a rod connecting the float with the lever,
substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
