COMBINATION TOILET ARTICLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 31, 1922.
Application filed October 26, 1921. Serial No. 51o,e02.-
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Isanonn TORNANSKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ellington, in the county of Tolland and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Toilet Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination toilet articles and more particularly to a combination hair brush, mirror, comb cleaner and hair pin holder.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a combination toilet article in which the different elements will be combined in a neat and efiicient manner and which may be easily moved into operative position for using them in the manner desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide an article of this character which will have a neat appearance and which will have the general proportion and appearance of an ordinary hair brush but which will combine the additional elements of a mirror, comb cleaner and hair pin holder in a manner that will not require any material change in the general size and construction of the article.
Other objects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detail description and accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the device constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation,
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section,
Figure l is a transverse section,
Figure 5 is a top plan view showing the mirror and comb cleaner in operative position,
Figure 6 is a detail view of the comb cleaner, and
Figure 7 is a cross section through the hair pin holder.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the body 1 of the brush is provided with the brush bristles 2 which project from one face of the body, and the body is provided with the handle 3 of the usual formation, but the handle is equipped with a longitudinal cylindrical recess 4, long enough to receive a quantity of hair pins and having one end open at the end of the handle, the open end being adapted to be closed by a removable cap member 5. Th recess 4 f ms a con:
venient receptacle for holding the pins and swung out to the position shown in Fig.- 5 of Strips 9 and 8 are-connected the drawing. by strands of any suitable material which are spaced relatively close together so that they may be inserted between the teeth of the comb. The brace 7 is to give rigidity to the cleaner when in use. p
When the comb is mounted upon the cleaner by passing the strands 10 between the teeth of the comb, the comb may be longitudinally reciprocated and the strands will thoroughly clean the comb and remove any foreign ma terial therefrom. When the comb cleaner is not in use it may be folded back into the compartment 6. Hinged legs 8' serve to hold cleaner at an angle. The compartment 6 is closed by the mirror 11 which consists of a rectangular plate finished with nickel to give it the reflecting qualities, and it will be understood that a glass mirror may be provided if desired, this being one of the variations which may be included in the invention. The mirror is provided with an extension 12, pivotally mounted upon the handle by a pivot member 1-3 whereby the ni'rror may be swung to the position shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing when it is in use. This will permit the compartment 6 to be opened, whereby the comb cleaner may be thrown into operative position.
It will be noted from the above, that'the various elements included'in the invention are compact and arranged in a neat manner so that the brush will have a neat appearance and will not be cumbersome or large in its proportions.
Minor changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
What is claimed is 1. An implement of the character described comprising a brush. body provided on one side with brush bristles, a compartment mounted on the opposite side of the brush body, a comb cleaner including two strips arranged within the compartment and equipped with longitudinal strands connecting the two strips together, one of the strips being hingedly connected to one end of the brush body whereby the comb cleaner may be swung into and out of the compartment in the brush body.
2. In an implement of the character described, the combination of a brush body provided on one side with brush bristles, the opposite side of the brush body being provided with a compartment, a comb cleaner including a pair of elongated strips mounted in the compartments, one of the strips being hingedly connected to the brush body, flexible strands connecting the said strips, and a mirror pivotally mounted upon the brush body and adapted to normally fit over the said compartment to cover the said comb cleaner. 7
3. In an implement of the character deprovided on one side with brush bristles,
the opposite side of the brush body being provided with a compartment, a comb cleaner including a pair of elongated strips mounted in the compartments, one of the strips being hingedly connected to the brush body, flexible strands connecting the said strips, and a mirror pivotally mounted upon the brush body and adapted to normally fit over the said compartment, to cover the said comb cleaner, the said brush body being equipped with a handle, the said mirror having an extension pivotally connected to the handle, the said handle having an elongated recess forming a receptacle and means to close the open end of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof, I have aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ISADORE TORNANSKY.
