Application filed March 29, 1921. Serial No. 456,578.
T0 aZZ wwm it may conce7m:
Be it known that I, CHESTER H. BURN HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Andover, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented pushed into contact. with the throat of the user thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for strengthening the menthpiece so as to prevent same from becoming easiiy oraoked or otherwise injured.
A still furtherobject of the invention is to generaiiy improve upon mouthpieces of this character by providing a device which wiil be of extremely simple, durable and inexpensive construction, one which is eificient and reliable in operation and Well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With these and numerous other objecte in view, the invention resides in certain novel natures of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and ciaimed.
In the drawingz- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the mouthpiece showing same attached to a horn, and
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof.-
Referring to the drawing in detail it WiH be seen that I designates a horn of conicai construction to which is attached the mouthpiece indicated generally by the numeral .2. This mouthpiece 2 comprises the c viindricai body portion 3 having the conical extension at at one end while its other end is rounded as indicated at 5. A eylindricai bore is provided in the body portion 8 while the extension 4 is provided With a conical bore for receiving the horn 1.
The mouthpiece just described is usually formed of wood and Wili become easiiy cracked as is vveil known and it often happens that the mouthpiece is accidentaily forced into engagement with the users throat as the device is usuaiiy used by younger chiidren and in play such accidents requentiy happen. I have, therefore, provided means for preventing the mouthpiece from being shoved in engagement With the throat of the user and at the same time bracing the mouthpiece so as to prevent it from becomin easiiy oracked or otherwise injured. Ihis means preferably consists of the flange 7 which is of the same diameter as the end 8 of the conical extension 4. This flange 7 is suitabiy fixed to the mouthpiece and is preferabiy formed of metal or some other strong material and is best situated at the conjunction of the body portion of the conical extension.
Having thus described my invention what I daim as new is: A mouthpiece of the class described comprising a cylindrical body portion having one end rounded and a conical extension formed at its other end, and a fiange positioned at the juncture of the body portion with its conicai extension, said flange being of equal diameter with the end of the conical extension.
In testimony wnereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHESTER H. BURNHAM.
