My improvements relate especially to the shredding and reducing opt remnents of tobecco lest for use as filling materiel or snulopgous purposes in the art of preparing tobacco for connnerciul purposes, and the main object of my invention is to afford simple, inexpensive, but elllective eppurutus adapted for the purp se in which the u e of knives is dispensed with, and provi on is mode for ell'ectuelly regulating); and grading the product.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

Tobacco shredding apparatus of the character designated, comprising a cylindrical disintegrating chamber having end discs and medial fixed partitions, concentric series of laterally protuberantrigid retard ant studs on the end discs and the said medial partitions, a power shaft mounted axially as related to the said disintegrating chamber and extending therethrough, spider hubs mounted rigidly on said power shaft and positioned between said end discs and said fixed medial partitions, laterally protuberant' disintegrating pins on the radial arms of said spider hubs positioned to intervene between the said concentric rows of fixed retardant studs on the end discs and medial partitions, fixed exit screens constituting in part the side walls of said disintcg- 'ratin chamber and formed with series of squareapertures of uniform area, suppleirentar exit screens fitting over and upon the peripheral surfaces of fixed side wall screens, means for adjusting said supplementary exit screens diagonally upon and with relation to said fixed side wall screens, a hopper positioned to teed leaf tobacco to said disintegrating chamber, a casing enclosing the main portion of said disintegrating chamber and screens and means for exhausting air from said casing, tor the purpose described.

Tobacco shredding apparatus oi the character designated, comprisinp a cylindrical disintegrating chamber hayingend di. es and medial fixed partitions, concentric series 0t laterally protuberant rigid retardant studs on the end discs and the said medial partitions, a power shaft mounted axially as related to the said disintegrating chamber and extending therethrough, spider hubs mounted rigidly on said power shaft and positioned between said end discs and said fixed medial partitions, laterally protuberant disintegrating); pins on the radial arms of said spider hubs positioned to intervene between the said concentric rows of fixed retardant studs on the end discs and medial partitions, fixed exit screens constituting; in part the side walls of said disintegrating chamber and formed with series o'l square apertures of uniform area, supplementary exit screens fitting over and upon the peripheral surfaces oi fixed side "all screens. means for adjusting said supplcexit screens diagonally upon and ni h relation to said fixed side wall screens, a hopper positioned to teed leali tobacco to said disintegrating ehamber, a casing euclosing the main portion of said disintegrating; chamber and screens, the upper partof said casing being formed with a discharge neck for the lighter products and the lower portion of the casingnith a discharge open ing for the heavier products, and means for exhausting air from said c; through the discharge neck in the upper portion thereof, for the purnose described.
