citizen of the United States, residing at Allentown, in the county of Lehigh, btate of Pennsylvania, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Shoe Protectors, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to toe protectors for shoe soles and it is my purpose to provide a protector of this .type through the instrumentality of which the toe portion .of the sole of a shoe may be restored to its normal shape after being worn away and .which may be applied by a person with ordinary skill, thereby saving the expense .and trouble of having the shoe formally repaired.

It is my further purpose to provide a device of the character named, which, when applied to the sole of ashoe will be substantiallyinvisible owing to the fact that 1t is so shaped vand. applied l.that certain vsurfaces thereof will form a continuation of the cor- Itis also my purpose to so construct the device that a portion thereof lmay be clinched into the upper surface of .the sole to inten-V sify the holding action ofthe protector and conceal all joints and in addition, keep thev welt and sole together and protect the toe of the shoe against separating in wet weather.

With the above and other` purposes in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference denote lcorresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the toe protector of a shoe showing my invention applied;

In applying the protector to an unworn` shoe the forward portion or rather the toe section of the sole B is chamfered corre-v spondingly to the base portion of the/pro tector so that when `the latter is `applied in place the bottom of said base portion will constitute a continuation of the bottom of thesole and render the Structure substan-V tially invisible. The saine result is attained by cutting away the side edge of the sole to correspond with the taper of the vertical side portion 15. By making the flange 17 relatively thin it ,can be readily clinched into the upper surface of the sole as clearly shown in Fig. 2 and the secureness with which the protector is held in place greatly enhanced. In case where'the sole is provided with prominent stitches on its upper surface or rather on the welt the flange 17 may be perforated as required to conform -comprisesva vertical side portion 15 which v with the stitches. Of coursein applying the protector after wear no trimming of the base of the sole to correspond with the protector is necessary as has previously been pointed out.

Where the welt is plain the flange 17 is correspondingly constructed as illustrated in the drawing. In other Words the shape of the flange 17 may be varied according to the particular' construction of the upper surface of the sole with which it is asso-l ciated, such variation being simply resorted to to secure a more-exact fitting. Y

It will of courseibe-understood that my invention is not limited to therspecific construction illustrated and describedand that various changes can be resorted to without departing from thescope of the invention as defined in the claims. Y
