The skip E and the operating connections are of course so arranged that the resultant foot-pounds of the skip in its descent are much greater than those necessary to raise the hopper 33 and its contents some six or eight inches. rThe skip having reached the ground and the hopper 33 raised from its seats upon the car F, the boom will be swung to bring the hopper above the skip E, whereupon the hook 35 will be unlatched and the hopper turned over so as to dump the aggregate material therein into thc skip. Thereafter the hopper, by swinging the boom 13 outwards, again is restored to a position above its seats upon the paving machine operator will now elevate the skip E to charge the mixing drum of t-he machine and by so doing the cable 19 is permitted to unwind from the shaft 2 and the hopper 33 is thus lowered to engage with the car 1T, or in other words restored to itsy position resting upon the truck of the car F.
The now empty car F may be pushed forward out of the way, a loaded car moved beneath the grapple device 30, and an operation previously set forth repeated. 1t is notable that owing to the mounting of the carrier 17 .and the method in which the cable 19 is engaged over the pulleys of said carrier, said carrier may be shifted readily inwardly and outwardly along the boom, its position necessarily being dependent upon the distance between a point above the skip E and the track of the railway along which the hopper cars operate. rllhe adjustment of the carrier 17 is allowed for by mere travel of the cable 19 over the pulleys 18.
For controlling the extent to which the cable 19 is paid out, in order to permit the necessary raising and lo-wering of the hopper 33, the clutch bracket 23 is employed and operates in the well known manner of such brackets to be positioned at different points lengthwise of the mast 11 incident to clutching engagement with said mast. 1t will be apparent that 1 advantageously utilize the different diameters of the shaft 2 and pulleys 6 in obtaining desirable leverage whereby the skip E may act to elevate the hopper at the proper time. The mounting of the arm or support 8 and bracket 7 on the truck of the machine is advantageous in readily effecting proper alinement of the mast 11.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new is:
1. 1n a crane of the class described, in combination, a support, cable operating means thereon, a vertical mast mounted on the support, a boom mounted to swing horizontally and carried by said mast, a pulley supporting clutch bracket adjustable on the mast, a grapple device, and a cable secured to the boom and arranged to support the grapple device, the cable engaging the pulley of the clutch bracket and being connected with said operating means.
2. 1n a crane of the class described, in combination, a support, cable operating Vmeans thereon, a vertical mast mounted on the support, a boom mounted to swing horizontally and carried by said mast, a pulley supporting clutch bracket adjustable 0n the mast, a grapple device, and a cable secured to the boom and arranged to support the grapple device, the cable engaging the pulley of the clutch bracket and being connected with said operating means, the supporting relation between the grapple device and cable being established by a carrier mounted on the boom and movable to shift the point of supporting suspension of the grapple device relatively to the boom.

combination, a support, cable operatingmeans thereon, a vertical mast mounted onl the support, a boom mounted to swing horizontally and carried by said mast, a pulley supporting clutch bracket adjustable on the mast, a grapple device, and a cable secured to the boom and arranged to support the grapple device, the cable engaging the pulley of the clutch bracket and being comiected with said operating means, the supporting relation between the grapple device and cable being established by a carrier mounted on the boom and movable to shift the point of supporting suspension of the grapple device relatively to the boom, and pulleys on the carrier affording a slippage connection between the cable and the carrier.
4. 1n a crane of the class described, in combination, a support comprising a truck engaging bracket, an adjustable mast carrying arm on the bracket, means for holding the mast carrying arm in an adjusted position and a boom supporting mast mounted on the arm.
5. 1n a crane of the class described, the combination with a support, of cable operating means thereon, a mast mounted on the support, a boom adapted to swing horizontally and carried by said mast, a carrier adjustable along the boom, and provided with guide means, a cable connected with said operating means and boom and engaging the guide means of the carrier, a suspension device associated with the carrier and engaging said cable, a loading skip, means to raise and permit lowering of the skip, and means to connect the skip and cable operating means whereby the skip may operate the suspension device.
6. A crane as set forth in claim 1, and an associated loading mechanism involving a Cir skip, means to raise and permit lowering of the skip, and a connection intermediate the skip and said cable operating means such that the skip is capable of actuating the said operating means.
7. In a crane of the class described, the combination with a truck including a running gear and bed, a bracket engaging the running gear, an adjustable mast carrying arm on the bracket, means for connecting the said arm to the truck bed, and a boom supporting mast mounted on the arm.
8. In a crane of the class described, the combination with a support, cable operating means thereon, a vertical mast mounted on the support, a boom carried by said mast, a grapple device associated with the boom, a cable secured to the boom and arranged to engage the grapple device, said cable bein connected with the operating means, a c utch bracket adjustably mounted upon the crane, and a guide member carried by the clutch bracket and engaging the cable, the adjustment of the bracket regulating the operative position of the grapple device.
9. In a machine of the class described, a
supporting frame, a frame comprising a suitable mast, a boom carried thereby and adapted to swing laterally, a grapple device for cooperation with a hopper containinff a load of material, said grapple device belng associated with the boom, a loading mechanism associated with the crane andcomprising a skip, operating means common to the crane and to the skip and including an operating shaft mounted on the supporting frame of the machine, an operating cable, a winding drum on said shaft connected with said cable so that the cable may wind on and unwind therefrom, cables connecting the skip with said shaft so that the operation of the winding drum by the operating cable is adapted to raise and lower said skip, and a cable adapted to wind and unwind relatively to said shaft and connected with said grapple device of the crane to raise and lower said grapple device, the raising of the grapple device bein caused by the turning of the shaft aforesai incident to lowering of the skip and unwinding action of the cables connecting said skip with the shaft.
