Description

T. G. .QREGOHY. HAIR BOBBING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED Jun; 11, 1921.-
Patented Dec; 20, 1921.
UNITED STATES rarsm" OFFICE.
. 'rnnononn e. enneonr, or PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
HAIR-BOBBING DEVICE.
LMTLQ'YU.
Application filed June 11,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Trrrononn G. GREGORY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Bobbing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hair clamping devices for use in holding the hair when it is to be cut in the manner known as bobbing.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and readily applied device of this character which will form a guide for the shears to insure the even cutting of the hair.
Another object is to provide a cheaply constructed device of this character adapted to clamp between the jaws thereof the hair to be bobbed so that when out the ends will be even all around.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the improved device shown applied, part being broken out;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of one member of the device;
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of the device shown applied; and
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the other clamping member.
In the embodiment illustrated, the device which is designed to be secured to the hair and clamp between the jaws thereof the portion to be cut comprises an inner jaw 1 formed of a band or strip of metal or any other suitable material and which is curved longitudinally into segmental form being designed to fit under the hair adjacent the neck of the person whose hair is to be bobbed. This band 1 is provided along its upper edge with a plurality of up-standing hook-like fingers 2 the bills 3 of which are out-turned and designed to be engaged in the hair as is shown clearly in Fig. 1 to hold the device in adjusted position relatively to the hair to be out. These fingers 2 are arranged in groups having spaces 1 formed betweeh them as shown in Fig. 2 between which the prongs of a cooperating outer clamping jaw 5 which is constructed of a band corresponding to that of band 1 and is 1921. Serial No. 476,880.
provided on its upper edge with a plurality of down-turned hook-like prongs or -spurs 6 positioned to enter between'the series of fingers 2 on the memberl through the spaces 41 at the end of the series is shown clearly in Fig. 2. Three of these prongs 6 are here shown for cooperation withthe three spaces 1 shown in the inner member 1.
In the use of this device the inner clamping jaw 1 is first passed under the hair with the outwardly bowed or longitudinally curved surface positioned against the inner side of the hair and with the hooked ends of the fingers 2 engaged in the hair as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 3 whereby the jaw 1 is held in adjusted position relatively to the hair to be cut. The jaw 1 is positioned so that the lower edge thereof will be located at the point where the hair is to be cut and then the outer jaw 5 is applied to the outer face of the hair as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 with the prongs 6 thereof passed through the spacesa and hooked over them)- per edge of the member 1 (see Fig. When so positioned the lower edges of the two members 1 and 5 will be in alinernent as shown in Fig. 3 and will form a guide for the shears used in cutting the hair, to insure an even cut all around permitting the hair to be quickly bobbed and to present an at- V tractive appearance when finished.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but itwill be understood that any modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of theinvention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What I claim is 1. A hair bobbing device comprising de tachably connected hair clamping members having hook-shaped fingers extending upwardly from one member for detachably engaging the hair to hold the device in operative position.
2. A device of the class described comprising, a pair of curved clamping members to fit one within the other, means carried by the upper edge of one of said members for detachably engaging the other to hold them in engaged position, and means carried by one of said members for lockingly engaging the hair to be bobbed.
3. A device of the class described,com
prising a pair of curved clamping bands Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec, 20,1921,
adapted to fit one Within the other and corresponding in width and length, curved fingers carried by one of said members to engage the other to hold the members in adjusted position relatively to each other,- and hook shaped fingers carried by one of said members to engage the hair and hold the device in adjusted position relative to the hair to be out. p r 1 4;. A device of the class described, comprising longitudinally curved clamping bars adapted to fit one Within the other and to hold the hair to be bobbed between them, one of said members being provided on its upper edge With a plurality of upstanding hair engaging fingers having down turned hooks at their free ends to hold the device in adjusted position relative to the hair tobe out, and the other member having downturned prongs on its upper edge to engage the first mentioned member to hold the device in operative position.
