To aid whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, RICHARD HENRY Srnri-inNs, subject of the King 01"- Great Britain, residing at Birmingham, England, have invented certain new and useful 111% provements in Vapor-Stoves, for which 1 have tiled application in England, 5 an. 10, 1919, Patent No. 134,430, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to oil or spirit vapor stoves and lamps of the type in which oil is raised from a container through a central supply conduit and branched feed tubes to a vaporizer having a pair of downwardly extending vapor tubes situated between and in a plane at right angles to the feed tubes and terminating in an upwardly directed vapor jet or plug situated beneath an open mixing tube leading to the burner.
The object of the present invention is to provide self-contained means for clearing the passage of the vapor jet or nozzle after use, and for regulating the flame.
According to the said invention, the lower ends of the two vapor tubes are situated outside the plane of the feed tubes and terminate at opposite sides of an upwardly inclined tubular body situated in the same plane as the said vapor tubes and carrying, at its upper end, the vapor jet or plug, the said tubular body containing the needle valve for clearing the jet and regulating the flame.
Preferably the stem or rod is provided with a valve face which closes on to a seating when the needle is within the bore of the vapor plug, thus obviating the necessity of relieving the pressure in the container; while when the needle is withdrawn, a shoulder on the stem is arranged to tightly compress a packing or gland within the tubular body. The accompanying drawing is a vertical section through a vaporizer and burner in accordance with the present invention.
The vaporizer is supplied with oil through two feed tubes or branches 1, 1, carried by the upper end of a main central tube 2 passing downward through the usual oil container, said feed tubes entering the bottom of the vaporizer chamber 3, which is of known or suitable construction. The oil vapor leaves the vaporizer by two depending curved tubes 4, 4, of dissimilar length, ar-
ranged in a plane at right-angles to the plane of the feed tubes 1, 1, and terminating at their lower ends in an inclined tubular body 5 within whose upper end is screwed the vapor plug or jet 6, which is similarly inclined. Contained within the tubular body is a stem or rod 7 carrying a screw-threaded collar 8 engaging an internally screwthreaded portion of the body. At its inner end this stem carries a needle 10 adapted to be moved longitudinally by the rotation of the stem so as to enter the bore of the vapor plug after the stove has been used, in order to keep said bore clear and unobstructed. At the said forward end of the stem, adjacent the needle, a ooned valve face 11 is provided, which, when the needle is within the bore of the vapor plug, engages a seating inside the body. The outer end of the stem passes through an'adjustable glandnut or cap 12 screwed on to the body, and is fitted with a suitable head or knob 13. When the needle is withdrawn the screw-threaded collar 8 on the stem is adapted, through the medium of a washer 14, to compress a suitable packing 15 held in place by a spring 16 contained within the cap 12 and acting on a sliding collar 17 By this means the tubular body isrendered gas-tight.
The lower end of the mixing tube 18 pass ing through the vaporizer is inclined or curved to correspond to the inclination of the vapor plug. When the needle valve is within the bore of the jet and the coned valve face 11 on its seating, the passage of the gas to the burner is cut off, and by ad justing the said needle valve the supply of gas can be regulated as required.
The inclined lower end of the mixing tube 18 may be itted with a coned sleeve 19 to prevent backdighting, although this may be omitted, if desired.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is 1. In oil and spirit vapor stoves, the combination with a vaporizer having two feed tubes, of two downwardly extending vapor tubes arranged between and at right-angles to the two feed tubes, an inclined tubular body carried between and terminating the lower ends of the vapor tubes said lower ends being situated outside the plane of the feed tubes, a vapor jet carried by the upper end of the tubular body and being similarly inclined, a burner, a mixing tube carried by the vaporizer having its lower end inclined similarly to the tubular body, a stem contained within the tubular body, a needle valve carried by the stein and adapted to enter the bore of the vapor jet, and means for propelling and repelling the stem.

In oil and spirit vapor stoves, the combination with a vaporizer having two feed tubes, of two downwardly extending vapor tubes arranged between and at right-angles 'to the two teed tubes, an inclined tubular 'body carried between and terminating the lower ends of the vapor tubes said lower ends being situated outside the plane of the feed tubes, a vapor jet carried by the upper end of the tubular body and being similarly inclined, a burner, a mixing tube oarried by the vaporizer having its lower end inclined similarly to the tubular body, a stem contained within the tubular body, a needle valve carried by the stem and adapted to enter the bore of the vapor jet, means for pro pelling and repelling. the stem, a packing contained within the tubular body, and a shoulder on the stem adapted, when the needle valve is withdrawn, tov oompress the packing,
