JACQUARD LOOM.
Application filed September 11, 1923.
To all wh'om it may concern:
B it known that I, RALPH WALTON, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and resident of Halifax, in the county of York, England, has invented certain Improvements in Jacquard Looms, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention re ates to improvements in Jacquard looms, the object being to provide means for stopping the loom should the jacquard cards stick to the card cylinder and be taken round thereby.
It has been found that in the aforesaid type of loom the jacquard cards have sometimes a tendency to stick to the card cylinder during the rotation of the latter in connection with the selecting mechanism connected with the warp threads. When'this occurs either mechanical damage is done to the mechanism of the jacquard itself or the wrong warp ends are selected so causing defects in the pattern of the cloth bein woven. My invention is designed to avoid t ese defects and consists in mechanism controlled by the operation of the card cylinder itself at the moment the cards commence to wra round it, such mechanism being connected with a suitable motion of known type for stopping the loom by shifting the driving belt from the fast to the loose pulley.
My invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1, shows in diagrammatic form an end elevation of a jacquard showing the application of my invention thereto and Fig. 2, rear elevation of same.
In accordance with my invention I arrange adjacent to the usual card cylinder a of the jacquard a feeler device which may convenient y consist of one or more arms 6 projecting over the card cylinder, such arms being connected to a pivotal shaft 0 conveniently mounted in the frame d of the jacquard and adapted to have motion given to them b the extra thickness of the cards 6 caused y the latter wrapping round the cylinder. The arms are not in any way affected when the cards are operating in the normal way. quired, or they may be placed in such position by their own weight or a weight acting in conjunction therewith. The feeler device is adapted to operate a pivoted catch 9 which may conveniently consist of an arm fixed on the shaft 0 provided with a recess h at its upper edge which normally holds or controls a pivoted hooked arm 2'. The arm 2' is provi ed with a stud or projection at one side to engage with the recess in the catch 9 so as to hold it normally in the position indicated in Fig. 1, out of engagement with a projection or stud 72 carried by the usual lifting grate m of the jacquard when the cards are working properly. On the other hand if the cards commence to wrap round the cyl inder the feeler device is actuated to release the catch 9 from the stud on the hooked arm 2' and allow the latter to come into the path of the stud is on the lifting grate so that on the next upward motion 0 the latter the hooked arm is lifted. The lower end of the hooked arm is coupled by a pin n to another arm 0 pivoted at p and surrounding the pin n is a spring 9 which normally tends to turn the hooked arm 71 towards the stud is when it its released from the catch g. The lifting of the hooked arm can thus be made the means of actuating any suitable and known form of stop motion connected with the-strap fork of the loom, any convenient means such as levers and links or the like being employed to connect the hooked arm with the stop motion mechanism. In the drawing I have carried this out by connecting a cord or the like r to the arm 0 the other end of the cord or arm being connected to a convenient part of the loom stop motion. 8 is a stop to prevent the arm 0 and the hooked arm dropping below a definite oint whilst t is a cord connected to the hoo ed arm to reset it to operative position as required. Before starting the loom again the wrapped cards are disengaged and put in proper order on the card cylinder and the hooked arm brought back into normal position by the cord t.
