JocKEY strlen. f
Application led March 21, 1924. Serial No. 700,897.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY L. DERR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tremont City, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jockey Sticks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it ap-pertains to make and use the same.
The present invention provides a` jockey stick which is :adjustable and which comprises pivoted sections to prevent crowd ing the swing or jockey horse into a fence when making a turn, and which also prevents the bridle from catching and becom ing injured and whichat the same time will keep the swing horse in without necessitating the use of the strap generally employed and running from the bridle bit to the tug of the line horse. i'
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a jockey stick embodying the invention, showing the same attached to a haine ring and tug,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device,
Figure 3 is a side view thereof,
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 2, looking to the rear as designated by the arrows, and
Figure 5 is a sectional detail on the line 5 5 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the severa-l views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The jockey stick comprises an inner sec tion 10 and an outer section 11, the latter being adjustable and pivoted. A longitudinal member 3 is connected to the inner section 10 and a brace 4 connects the rear end of the member 3 with the outer end of the section 10. The imier section :10
preferably consists of a. strip of sheet metal folded upon itself intermediate its longitudinal edges so as to receive the outer section 11 and the outer end of the brace 4. A plurality of openings 12 and 13 are formed in the sections 10 and 11 and a pin 14 passes through registering openings and pivotally and adjustably connects the section 11 to the section 10. The closed edge of the section 10 limits the forward movement of the section 11, but the latter is free to move rearwardly at its outer end to prevent crowding of the swing or jockey horse into a. fence when making a turn and also to prevent injury to the bridle. Short straps 15 and 16 are provided at the ends of the longitudinal member 3 and a similar strap 17 is provided at the outer end of the section 11. kA snap hook 18 applied to the strap 17 enables the@ outer end of the jockey stick to be readily en- Igaged with or disengaged from the bridle bit of the jockey horse. The strap 15 is adapted to connect the jockey stick to the hame ring 19 and the strap 16 provides for connecting the rear end of the longitudinal member 3 with the tug 20 adjacent the belly band 21.
What is claimed is:
1. A jockey stick comprising inner and outer sections adjustably connected, the outer section being provided with means for attachment of the stick to the bridle bitof the jockey horse, and means at the inner end of the inner section for attaching the same to the hame ring and tug of the line horse.
2. A jockey stick comprising inner and outer sections adjustably and pivotally connected, means for connecting the outer section to the bridle bit of the jockey horse, and means for connecting the inner section to the haine ring and tug of lthe line horse.
3. A jockey stick having a longitudinal member connected by bracing means to its innerV end, means at opposite ends of the longitudinal member for connecting the same to the haine ring and tug of the line horse, and means for connecting the jockey stick to the bridle bit of the swing horse.
4. A jockey stick comprising inne-r and outer sections pivotally and adjustably connected, a longitudinal member at the inner end of the jockey stick, a brace between the longitudinal member and the inner section of the jockey stick, means In testimony whereof I affix my signanat opposite ends of the longitudinal memture in the presence of two Witnesses. ber for connecting the same to the hame ring and tug of the line horse, and means HENRY L. DERR. at the outer end of the jockey stick for Witnesses: connecting the same .to the `bridle bit of the CHAS. WIEGEL,
jockey horse. LAURA R. NEESE.
