Be it known that I, HERBERT C. GROTH, a

. citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Identification Signs for Plug Fuses; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a very desirable identification device for plug fuses which will enable a person to see at a glance exactly what light circuit or other circuit is controlled by any particular fuse of a fuse box, the device being of exceptional value in determining whether cessation of current, on any particular circuit, is due to blowing of a fuse.

Vith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing.

Figures 1 and 2 are elevations looking in opposite directions and showing one form of construction.

Figure 8 is a perspective view showing a slightly different form of construction applied to a fuse.

Figure 41 is a side elevation showing a still further modification.

Figure 5 is an edge view of the device shown in Fig. 4.

Figure 6 is a detail 66 of Fig. 1.

Figure 7 is an edge view of the device shown in Fig. 3.

In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a thin collar which may either be continuous or non-continuous, as will be seen by comparing Figs. 1, 2 and 4. This collar is adapted to engage a plug fuse immediately under its enlarged head and at a suitable point, said collar is provided with a neck 2 adapted to be bent around the edge of the fuse head as seen for instance in Fig. 3. This neck carries a T- head 3 which may be directly provided with letters or other symbols to indicate one of a number of electrical circuits, or the ends of said head may be bent substantially upon themselves as indicated at 4 in Figs. 1 and 6, to detachably hold a card 5 for displaying sectional view on line 1922. the desired information. In either instance, it will be seen that a sign is provided adjacent the outer end of the fuse, so that this fuse can be identified at a glance and consequently a great deal of time and trouble, which is now usually necessary in locating the causes of cessation of current, will be obviated.

The device is simple and inexpensive and may readily be formed from one piece of sheet material of any desired character.

Excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed and they may therefore be followed if desired, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, minor changes may be made.

I claim:

1. In combination with a plug fuse having an enlarged head; a collar around said fuse under its head, said collar being thin and flat in a plane at right angles to the axis of the fuse, and an identification sign carried by said collar and visible adjacent said head when the fuse is threaded into the usual socket.

2. In combination with a plug fuse having an enlarged head; a collar engaging said fuse under its head, said collar being thin and flat in a plane at right angles to the axis of the fuse, a thin flat neck joined integrally to the outer edge of said collar and bent around the edge of said head, and an identification sign integrally carried by said neck and disposed adjacent the outer side of said head.

In combination with a plug fuse having the usual enlarged head at its outer end; a collar surrounding said fuse and abutting the inner side of said head, an identification sign lying against the outer side of said head, and a bendable neck joining said sign and collar and forming the sole connecting means between the two. said neck being of a character to remain in any position to which it is bent.

4. An identification device for a plug fuse, comprising a collar to surround the fuse and engage the underside of its usual head, said collar being thin and flat in a plane at right angles to the axis of its fuse-receiving opening, a thin flat neck extending from the outer edge of said collar and adapted to be bent around the edge of the fuse head, and an identification sign carried by said neck.

5. An identification device for a plug fuse, comprising a collar to surround the fuse and I comprising a collar to surround the fuse and abut the underside of its usual head, an identification sign adapted to lie against the outer side of the fuse head, and a bendable neck joining said collar and said sign and constituting the sole connecting means between the two, said neck being of a character to remain in any position to which it is bent.
