The invention is directed. broadly to devices for effecting minute adjustments in the position of the stationary contact of a governor controlled circuit breaker. The essential features of my improvement conas sists in'a slidable member suitably suplpo ed and moved in one direction by yi ding means such as a spring while the slidable member is moved in the op osite direction a rotating part arranged so as to mpart ve minute increments of movement to said sli able member. Said rotatable part is provided with a thread which is constructed so as to move the rotatable part endwise by small increments of 46 movement at each fractional part rotation thereof. This rotatable member is provided with a tapered end which bears against the slidable part. Said rotatable part is also located at an angle to the endwise movable member and the tapered part bears against this endwise movable member, so that for each increment of movement imparted to said rotatable part, a fractional portion of ings. The invention will possibly be made more clear by reference to the illustrated embodiment of the invention contained in the drawhave shown a supporting table 1, carrying a bracket 2, on which a motor 3 is mounted. The motor shaft 4 projects from the casing and carri a fly wheel 5. Mounted on the bracket 2 is a su porting member 6, preferably made of insu ating material. Mounted in the support 6 is an endwise slidable member 7. Said member is formed with a head 8, havspring 10 bears against the head at one end and at its other end against a seat in *the support (Sand this spring operates to yieldingly force the member 7 endwise in one direction. This endwise slidable member 7 at the free end thereof, serves as a stationary contact of a circuit breaker. The contact surface is indicated at 11 in the drawings. Co-operatin with. this stationary contact, is a mova le contact '12, which is carried by a spring arm 13 clamped to the fiy,wheel 5 and rotating therewith. The contacts 11 and 12 are dis osed in the axis of the rotating shaft of tiie motor, so that'the contact 12 may rotate and still make roperengagement with the contact 11. ounted on the arm 13 is a weight 14. This weight is disposed considerable at one side of the plane of the member 13, so that as the fly wheel 5 rotates, the centrifugal force acting on the weight 14, will bend the arm 13 and separate the contacts 11 and 12.

The tapered end of the shaft 19 may be so shaped as to impart to the slidable member 7 when this increment of movement is given to the shaft, a movement of one ten-thousandth of an inch and s for each one-hundredth of an inch movement of the.
With this slidable member embodied in a governor controlled circuit breaker, the speed of the motor may be adjusted very accurately. Furthermore, very small variations in the speed of the motor may be obtained. The mechanism is especially adapted for controlling the speed of a motor driving the record table of a talkin machine, wherein it is not only desira is to control the speed of the motor very accurately, but to varythe speed of the motor so as to vary the speed of the record table within very small limits.
The current carryin the motor are connecte to the terminals and 21. The terminal 20 is connected through the shaft 15 to the slidable member 7 and thus to the contact 11. The contact 20 is connected to the plate 23, against lines for operatin which a brush 24 bears and this brush 9A- is connected to the terminal 25. The terminal 25 is connected by the line 26 with one of the brushes of the motor at 27. The terminal 21 is connected through the frame to the other brush of themotor. A resistance R is connected to the terminal 21 and to the shaft 15. It will readily be seen that when the contacts are closed, the resistance R is cut out and the current passes directly to the brushes or motor, while when the contacts 11 and 12 are separated, the resistance 'member in the op is thrown into the circuit. The contacts are separated as above noted, through the action of centrifugal force on the weight 14. The time at which these contacts separate depends upon the position of the contact 11 and this is the part which is capable of being minutely ad usted through my improved devices.
It is obvious that my invention may be embodied in other devices other than that herein described.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. In a contact adjusting device a pair of contacts, one of which is relatively stationary, a member carryin said stationary contact slidable endwise For varying the position of the contacts relative to each other,
'means for yieldingly forcing said member in one direction, means for moving said member in the opposite direction comprising a manually rotatable shaft, means for giving said shaft increments of movement in an endwise direction as it is rotated, and means whereby said shaft at each increment of movement imparts a predetermined fractional portion of said increment of movement to said slidable member.
