IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOSITORS COPY-DISTRIBUTERS.

Speeication'forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,092, dated March 31, 1874; application filed February 25, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES It. BRAINARD, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Compositors7 Copy- Dstributers, of which the following is a description snfliciently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l is an isometrical perspective View.

My invention relates more especially to copy-distributers for use in daily-newspaper ofh'ces; and consists in a galley-holder provided with a sel'iesof compartments and pins or hooks correspondingly lettered or numbered, yas hereinafter more fully set forth, the object being to keep the copy properly assorted, thus greatly facilitating and reducing the expense of proof-reading.

The simplicity of my invention renders an elaborate description unnecessary.

From the foregoing, the nature and operation of my invention will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters.

XVhen the compositor goes to the bank or dump7 to empty matter, instead of depositing his copy in a drawer7 it is impaled on the pin or hook in the stand corresponding with the slip in which the galley is located: Forinstance, if he deposits matter in a galley in slip E, his copy will be put on the pin or hook E, and in thesame manner with respect to the other compartments, so that when the galley is taken to be proved, the copy corresponding with it can be instantly found.

It will be seen that the compartments or slips in the stand, and their corresponding pins or hooks, may be numbered or otherwise marked instead of lettered, or that more or less compartments may be used without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus set forth my improvement, what I claim is- The copy-distributer described, consisting of the galley-holder N, provided with compartments for galleys, and pins or hooks for copy, correspondingly lettered, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
