To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD Mnnzmenn, a citizen of Czechoslovakia, and resident of Prague, Czechoslovakia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons of the type generally known as non-separable or bachelors buttons in which the head or button member proper is connected to a base member having a shank which passes through the cloth and is received within the head member and held there so that it cannot be withdrawn.
The button or head member may comprise a dish shaped member in the bottom of which is placed a disk having a central opening and having slits extending outward- 1y from this opening to form spring tongues. These tongues grip and hold the pin of the lower or base part when it is forced through the fabric and up into the head member.
For the parts to be correctly positioned the plates of the two parts of the button should. be substantially parallel and the pin should be inserted in a direct line into the head portion. If for any reason this position is not attained, the pin will wabble in the head of the button notwithstanding the spring tongues. This will tend to loosen the parts and permit easy disengagement. Furthermore, the point of the pin normally lies free adjacent the cover of the top or button part, and may accidentally be pressed through said cover.
An object of this invention is to provide a guide for the pin when inserted so that it will always occupy the correct position with relation to the other parts and thus prevent wabbling and consequent loosening of the parts.
Another object is to provide such a guide in the form of a cap which will prevent indentation or perforation of the top or cover of the button by the pin.
Other objects will be apparent from the following detailed description and appended claims.

cylindrical part 3, a bottom part 4: and an outwardly flaring part 5 connected to the cylindrical part. The bottom part 4. is preferably provided with an annular groove 6 which is pressed into the fabric when the button is in use. A disc member 7 having a central opening and slits extending outwardly from said opening to form spring tongues 8 rests upon the bottom part i. The pin 2 passes up through the central opening and forces outwardly the spring tongues 8 into the position shown in Figure 2. These engage the pin to hold it against accidental withdrawal.
A dome shaped member 11 having a flat margin 12 which rests upon the disc 7 terminates at its upper end in a closed dome of generally cylindrical shape, which somewhat resembles the end of a cartridge. When the pin 2 is inserted into the button member, the end thereof will come in contact with the part 11 of this dome shaped member or cap, and thus be guided into a central position, if it is not already in proper relation. When in fully inserted position as in Figure 2, the pin fits within the portion 13 which not only allows but slight play, but affords an additional thickness of metal to prevent the point from penetrating the top 9 of the button mem her which is spun down over the flaring portion 5 as indicated at 10, thus holding the parts in proper relation.
In the form shown in Figure 5 a difierent form of dome or cap member 14: is illustrated and it is shown how the pin 2 may penetrate the cover 9 at D. This is prevented by the form of dome member illustrated in the other figures.
The invention therefore afiords means whereby the pin will be guided into proper position when the button is used, and also means whereby the parts will be held in proper relation and wabbling of the pin and consequently the loosening of the parts will be prevented.
It is obvious that various detail changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention which is to be regarded as limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A button comprising head and base members, a pin carried by the base member and adapted to be forced into the head member, said head member comprising a hollow body portion and a disc-shaped top portion, means within the head for holding the pin of the base in locked position and a dome-shaped cap within the head having inwardly inclined walls anda reduced top portion' into which the outer end of the pin extend-s and which serves to guide the pin while being inserted and to protect the top of the button.
2. A button comprising head and base members, a pin carried by the base member and adapted to be forced into the head member, said head member comprising a hollow body portion and a disc-shaped top portion, means within the head for holding the pin of the base in locked position and a dome-shaped cap Within the head having inwardly inclined walls and a reduced top portion into which the outer end of the pin extends and which serves to guide the pin while being inserted and to protect the top of the button, the cap having a flat annular flange about its base and the wall of the body portion being crimpe-d inwardly to engage the flange and hold the cap in posiown.
