VAPOR-BATH CABINET.
Application filed December 20, 192a Serial no, 507,974.
more particularly to a cabinet in which the.
patient may recline with the head protruding from the cabinet The general object of my invention is to provide a cabinet of the indicated character improved in various particulars with respect to the eliicient ventilating and cooling of the cabinet after the bath without unduly subjecting the patient to chilling air and With respect to an arrangement of the provided which inclines in all directions to piping whereby an increased percentage of heat will be maintained in the region of the feet of the patient.
The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and characteristics Wlll more clearly appear as the descriptlon proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a vapor bath cabinet embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section; 7
Figure 3 is a transverse vertical section on the plane indicated by the lines 33, Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a plan view with the cabinet open.
Generally my improved cabinet embodies the usual feature of a box-like body 10 having suitable supports such as legs 11 and provided with a cover 12 hinged along one edge as at 13. Also, a bottom 1 is a central drain cock 15. Similarly, along one side of the cabinet is an upper section 16 hinged as at 17 to be lowered for facilitating the entrance and departure of the patient. A rack or hammock 18 of slats is supported as usual by legs 19 resting on the bottom 14. I
A11 opening 20 for the head of the patient is provided at the head end of the cabinet, and a closure 21 for said head opening 20 is provided and hinged at its lower edge as at In order that the closure 21 may constitute a convenient head rest-I provide a support 23 in the, formof a diagonal brace hinged at its lower end as at 2a to he body 10. The free end ofthe brace 23 is adapted to engage in any 'oneofa series of notches 25 on the combined head rest and closure 21 to vary the angular position of said head rest. The brace 23 when disengaged from, the head rest 21 drops by gravity to a perpendicular position pendent from the lower edge of theadjacent end ofthe body 10.
In order to cool the cabinet while the patient is still reclining therein and not subject the patient to chilling air which would result from the raising of the cover 12' a ventilating opening 26 is provided in the cover 12 and adapted to be controlled by a slide closure 27. Similarly, in the opposite sides of the body 10 ventilatin openings 28 are formed and control ed by slides 29.
A container 30 of lmown form may be positioned for holding the sulphur or other medicament, from which container the vapor passes into a perforated pipe 32 ranging lengthwise of the cabinet adjacent the bottom thereof beneath the hammock 18. An air or steam pipe 33 having an inlet funnel 31 leads also into the cabinet and ranges lengthwise thereof. The two pipes 32, 33 connect with a manifold or transverse pipe 34 disposed at the head of the cabinet. From pipe 34 leads a dis charge pipe 35 at one end and passes out wardly through the foot of the cabinet between the container 30 and funnel 31. will be observed that the pipe 33 connects at one end of the cross pipe 34 and the pipe 32 at about the center of said pipe 34:
.so that the vapors mix and pass along the pipe 35 through the perforations thereof and outward as at 36. The arrangement conveniently separates the container 30 and funnel 31 and the heat is maintained by the pipe 34 beneath the feet of the patient.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims. 7
Having'thus described my invention, 1
1. A vapor bath comprising a cabinet having a hinged top and a hinged side, openings formed in the sides and, in the top, manually-slidable means disposed at the interior. of the cabinet for'opening or closing" said openings, a hammock in said cabinet supported on the bottom of the same, steam pipe extending within said cabinet between the hammock and the top,
a medicament pipe connected With said steam plpe at their inner ends, an exhaust PIPE-3150 connected Wlth sald steam pipe and the medicament pipe, the exhaust pipe and the medicament pipe crossing" each other adjacent the foot of the vapor bath to concentrate the heat at the foot of the bath, and a drain cock at the bottom of said cabinet for draining the condensed vapor collected in the bath. 7 e V 2. In combination with a vapor bath provided with a steam pipe, a medicament pipe and a discharge pipe, of a hammock arranged above said pipes and legsrfor supporting said hammock extending to the bottom of the vapor bath and across the cabinet and providing openmgs between the legs through Which said pipes extend.
