To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Vrcron A. DE CANIO and WALTER J. BUZZINI, citizens of the United States, residing at Union Hill and White Plains, respectively, in the counties of Hudson and Westchester and States of New Jersey and New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Serving Table, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to a new and improved combination serving table and food carrier for use in hotels and the like. One of the objects of our invention is to provide a combination serving table and food carrier which can be compactly folded into a small space and which can be extended so as to provide a large table area. Another object of our invention is to devise combination serving table and food carrierswhich can be conveniently stacked one on top of the other.

Another object of our invention is to provide a combination serving table and food carrier which can be moved about from place to place without any relative shifting of the parts.

Other objects of our invention will be described in the following specification which illustrates a preferred embodiment thereof Fig. 1 is a perspective view of our invention.

Fig. 2 is a central sectional view showing the two leaves of the table in their extended position.

Fig. 4 i a perspective view showing one of the angle irons or members on which the leaves of the table are mounted.

As can be seen in Fig. 1, the table which has four legs 2, has a horizontal top 3 provided with a hand hold 16 by means of which the table can be lifted and carried from place to place.

The table is provided at its front with two sliding trays 4 having hand holds 5. When the device is brought into the kitchen of a hotel, for example, food can be placed on these trays, to be served on the table top The back of the device is of the same construction as the front, so that the trays 4 can be pulled out either way.

The hand holds 5 are simply recesses cut into the material of the drawers which are preferably made of wood, like the rest of the device, although a metal construction could also be used if desired.

As can be seen more particularly in Fig. 3, the front of the device i provided with stops 7 which prevent the drawers or trays 4: from being moved out until they are slightly raised so that their bottoms are raised above the tops of the stops 7. Similar stops are provided at the rear of the table, so as to limit the movement of the trays, which can be completely removed from the device, if desired, either at the front or back.

The leaves 6 of the device are mounted upon angle irons 8 having notches 9 at the fronts and rears thereof. These angle irons 8 are also provided with holes 10 through which nails or other securing means may be passed so as to hold the leaves 6 in position.

' The angle irons 8 are provided with longitudinal slots 11 having lateral branches 12. The front legs 2 are provided with studs 14 and 15. As can be seen in Fig. 3, the to studs 15 project through the slots 11 and they are preferably provided with enlarged heads so that while the angle irons 8 may be slid to and fro on the upper studs 15, they cannot be removed therefrom.

The front of the device is also provided with a top rail 17 having two projecting stud 18. The operation of the device is as follows When it is desired to collapse it, then as shown in Fig. 1, the leaves are moved into the vertical position, their rear or bottom slots 9 fitting over the bottom studs 14, so that all parts of the device are prevented from relative movement.

In this position as shown in Fig. 1, the angle irons 8 project above the rail 17 of the top of the device so that any device of similar construction can fit between the projecting angle irons, so that devices of this construction can be conveniently and securely stacked.

If it is desired to move the device into the open or extended position, then the engle irons 8 are slightly raised so as to free their bottom slots 9 from the studs 14. The angle irons are then swung into the horizontal position and they are then moved inwardly until their upper or front slots 9 engage the studs 18 and they are then lowered slightly so that the studs 15 enter the lateral branches 12 as illustrated in Fig. 3. In this position every part of the device is locked against any undesirable movement. The space above the top of the compartment in which the upper tray is located can be used for holding the linen, cutlery, and the like. ries the linen and the like, the top tray can be used for carrying hot food and the bottom tray for carrying the other food, etc.

We have described a preferred embodiment of our invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions could be made without departing from its spirit and we do not wish to be limited to the details above mentioned.

lVe claim:

1. In a combination serving table and food carrier, the combination of a body having a stud in one of the upper corners thereof, a locking stud at the top thereof, and at a distance away from the first-mentioned stud, a leaf mounted upon an angle member having a longitudinal slot provided with a lateral branch, and the said first-mentioned stud projecting through the said slot so that the angle member can be slid thereon, the said angle member having a notch at its upper end so that the said leaf can be held in a vertical position or it can be slid to a horizontal position in which the first-mentioned stud engages the said lateral branch and the notch in the angle member engages the said lockin stud, whereby the said leaf.

is firmly locke in position.

2. In a combination serving table and food carrier, the combination of a body-having a stud at the upper corner thereof, a holding stud in the lower part thereof and a locking stud at the top thereof, an angle member having a slot provided with a lateral branch through which the first-mentioned stud projects, the said angle member Hence the top compartment carhaving notches at both ends thereof, the lower notch being. adapted'to. engage the holding stud when the said leaf is in its vertical position and the upper notch being adapted to engage the locking stud when the leaf is in its horizontal position and the first-mentioned stud engages the lateralbranch of the said slot, so that the said leaf is firmly held in both of its positions.

3. In a combination serving table and food carrier, the combination of a body having leaves movably secured thereto, so that the said leaves can be held in the vertical position against the said body or be moved to a horizontal position, the ends of the said leaves projecting above the said body, when they are in their vertical position, so that the devices can be stacked one on top of the other with the body of the upper device fitting between the leaves of the lower device, the lower part of the body being so dimensioned so as to fit be tween the leaves of another such combination serving table and food carrier, when said leaves are in a vertical position.

4. In combination, a serving table and food carrier having a body portion provided with a stud on the upper end thereof, a leaf mounted upon a slotted slidable member, saidstud projecting into the said slot, so that the said member can be slid to and fro upon the said stud, whereby the said leafcan be held in a vertical posi tion at the side of the table, or be slid into a horizontal position, meansforcausing the said leaf to engage with the said stud and with another stud located at the top of the said table, the engagement of the said leaf with both of itsstuds serving to lock it securely in horizontal position.
