Application led August 28, 1923. Serial No. 659,820.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN A. COLE,
a. citizen of the United States, residing at Anaheim, in the county of Orange, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Pistols; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others l@ skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys, and particularly to toy pistols. One object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved form of toy pistol which is adapted to shoot rubber bands as the projectiles, and is especially useful in killing flies. so Another object is to provide a pistol of this character which has novel and eflcient means for releasing the rear end of the rubber band from its retaining pin.
Other objects and advantages will be aps parent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Fi re 1 is a pers ective view of a toy pisto made in accor ance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view through the lock portion of the pistol, showing the band releasing plunger lifted to push the band from the pin.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, the pistol is shown as comprising a stock or grip 10, a lock or middle portion 11, and thebarrel 12. The upper face of the barrel Ais flattened throughout its len h, as shown at 13, and extending longitu inallv along the center of this flat face is. a rib 14, the outer end of said rib being slightly undercut, as 45- shown at 15. This face, as clearly seen in the drawing, inclines downwardly and outwardly, from the lock or middle portion, to the outer end of the barrel. The upper face of the lock ortion is flat, and has a rearwardly extending projection 16, which overlies the upper end of the stock or grip portion. In the upper face of this projection 16 there is disposed an upwardly, and slightly rearwardly inclined 'pin 17, around which the rear end portion of the rubber band 18 is engaged. Pivotally mounted in the lower portion of the lock portion is a trigger 19, the same working within a guard 20, and having a rearwardly extend ing lug 21 which is disposed within the 60 lock portion of the pistol. Slidable vertically in the rear end of the lock portion, and having its lower end disposed directly over the said lug 21, is a plunger 22, the upper end of which is arranged to rise above the upper faceof the lock portion, when the .trigger is pulled rearwardly. The upper end of the plunger 22 is grooved ,for engagement with the closely associated portion of the rear end of the rubber band, when said band isengaged around the pin 17, whereby, when said plunger is moved upwardy, upon pulling theV trigger, the band will be lifted from the pin, and permitted to fly forwardly from the forward end of the barrel, as will be readily understood. Disposed within the lock portion of the pistol, and connected at its opposite ends to the lower end portion of the plunger 22, and to the wall of the said lock por- 8o tion, is a spring 23, which normally draws the plunger down with its upper end in the plane of the upper face of said lock portion.
It will be noted, that by reason of the fact that the pin 17 is of small diameter, the side portions of the rubber band, engaged around the pin, will be disposed in close proximity to each other, so that when the trigger is pulled the plunger will rise 99 beneath the said portions of the band and push the same from the upper end of the pin.
What is claimed is:
A toy pistol including a grip, a lock, and a barrel, the barrel having a longitudinal rib on its upper face, a rubber band retaining pin on the upper face of the lock portion, the other end of the said rib bein arranged to retain the other end of theloop 100 of the rubber band, a trigger, and a plunger slidable vertically through the upper face of the lock of the pistol forwardly of In testimony whereof, I afix my signa.- lghe dsad pinhin positionl to1 lift th rubber ture, in the presence of two Witnesses.
