Description

March 25 1924. 1,487,824
(3. W. VINCENT FUNNEL Filed NOV- 11, 1922 INVENTOR i WITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented er. 25, 1924.
mantra FIN"? o FEQE.
CHARLES W. VINCENT, OF ASHLEY, PENNSYLVANIA.
FUNNEL.
Application filed November 11, 1922.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES W. VINCENT, a citizen of the United States, residin at Ashley, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Funnels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a funnel, the general object of the invention being to provide means for holding the funnel in upright position upon the object to be filled and to provide an air vent for permitting the air to escape from the object without interfering with the passage of liquid thereinto.
Another object of the invention is to make the stem of the funnel of the same size throughout so as to prevent the funnel from. clogging up and to provide corrugations on the stem.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which 2- Figure 1 is a view showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Figure 3 is a section on line 3i3 of Figure 2. a V
In these views 1 indicates the body of the funnel and 2 the spout or stem thereof. I make the stem of the same diameter through out its length and corrugate it, as shown at 3. A collar 4 is secured to the upper part of the stem in such a manner that spaces 5 are left between the inner edge of the collar and the exterior walls of the stem to permit Serial No. 600,311.
air to escape from the bottle or other object being filled, the collar resting upon the top of the bottle as shown. This collar is provided with an exterior flange 6.
The collar will hold the funnel in upright position so that the person using it can use both hands in pouring the liquid into the funnel. The vents will prevent the escaping air from interfering with the flowing of liquid into the bottle and by making the stem of the same size throughout there is no danger of the stem clogging up. The corrugations will prevent centripetal motion which occurs in funnels as now made and which acts to check the flow of liquid through the stem. It is also an easy matter to clean my funnel.
The collar 4: will make the funnel fit various sizes of objects upon which it is used and at the same time hold the funnel erect so that both hands are free for other purposes. It also acts to prevent overflows and the entrance of dust and foreign matter into the object being filled. The straight corrugated outlet makes the funnel easily cleanable so that the funnel can be kept in a sanitary condition. The corrugations also make the funnel much stronger.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A funnel having a corrugated stem, a flanged collar surrounding the stem in a manner to engage the outer extending corrugations thereby providing vent openings between the collar and the inwardly extending corrugations. i
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CHARLES l V. VINCENT.
