BARBER, OF WILLIAMSTON, SOUTH CAFE-101111111.
L003! BOBBIN HOLDER.
Application filed February 6, 1923. Serial No. 617,241.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that l, JosErH Errs,a citizen of the United States, residing at filliamston, in the county of Anderson and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom Bobbin Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of my said invention is the provision of a holder adapted for attachment to the usual bobbin batteries of weaving machines for preventing the accidental upward or backward flying movement of bobbins within these batteries, and also for overcoming the casual disengagement of the bobbins from said batteries.
A further object of. my invention resides in the provision of such a holder which is comparatively simple of construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and of such a nature as to be readily attached toconventional types of bobbin batteries employed in conjunction with weaving machines.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is anend elevational View of a conventional type bobbin battery, showing my improved holder associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal cross sectional view through my holder per se,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the sliding bolt member forming a part of my invention, and
Figure 4 is a similar view of the sliding bolt and keeper.
Referring to the drawings in detail, and particularly to Figure 1, there is shown a bobbin battery A of usual construction adapted for receiving therein the multiplicity of bobbins B. This battery A is in the form of a drum-shaped casing, and is provided at its bottom side with the usual bobbin outlet C, together with the bobbin guide D forwardly of this outlet. The casing constituting the battery is formed behind the outlet opening C with an extension -4 my improved holder constitutes the pro vision of a keeper member 6, which is in the form of a U-shaped bracket consisting of end legs 7, and a bottom plate in the form of a connection for these end legs designated 8. The bottom plate 8 is formed with a square shaped opening 9 substantially intermediate the ends thereof, and the legs 7 with vertical slots 10. Extending through the squared opening 9 is a bolt 11, headed at one end as shown, and being formed beneath this head with a squared portion 12, which fits within the squared opening 9 of this keeper for preventing rotation of this bolt.
Extending longitudinally of the keeper 6 is a sliding latch bolt 13, which is slidably disposed within the said slots 10 of the end legs 7 of the keeper 6. One end of this sliding latch bolt 13 is formed with a head or plate 14, which is curved downwardly, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 3. Positioned over the member 13, and in close engagement with shoulders 15 formed upon the upper and lower edges thereof, is a washer plate 16, and between this washer 16 and one of the legs 7 of the keeper 6 is a relatively strong coiled spring 17 surrounding the latch bolt 13. The end of this mem ber 13 opposite from the head or plate 14, may be and preferably is, provided with a plurality of spaced openings 18 for the re ception of a cotter pin 19 externally of the adjacent leg 7 for adjusting the limit of the sliding movement of the head of said bolt.
Referring again to Figure 1, it will be seen that the said extension web of the battery A is formed with an opening through casual disengagement of the same from the batteries through the opening until the same are forcibly projected therefrom.
Although I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made mounted in the openings of the bracket member having a shoulder formed thereon between the leg portions of the bracket, a plate mounted on said latch member and itted on said shoulder portion, a coil spring mounted on the latch member and engaging said plate and one leg of the bracket member for normally forcing said plate against the shoulder of the latch member and forcing said latch member outwardly into the opening in said bobbin battery for engagement with the bobbin therein, and means adjustably mounted on the latch member and cooperating with. the bracket for limiting the projection'of said member to any one of a plurality of predetermined positions, and means for securing the bracket member to the bobbin battery for holding the same rigidly thereon.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOE EPPS.
