J. DOMINICK SHOE LAST Filed April 12. 1922 gwvewfoz Patented Mar. 18, 1924.
JOHN DOMINIGK, OF MASSILLON, OHIO.
SHOE LAST.
Application filed April 12, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DoMINroK, a citizen of the United States, residin at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Shoe Last, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shoe lasts and more particularly to an adjustable last adapted to be quickly adjusted to fit shoes of various sizes.
The objects of the invention are to provide a last comprising a fixed base portion and a movable last portion, adapted for adjustment upon the base portion.
The above and other objects may be attained by forming the device in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the last, one adjustment being shown in full lines, and another adjustment in dot and dash lines;
Fig. 2, a bottom plan view of the last member; and
Fig. 3, a top plan view of the base mem ber.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawing.
The base member 1 is provided With a shank 2 adapted to be received in the socket of any usual stand or the like for supporting the last and is provided at its upper end with the head 3 having the heel portion 4 at its rear end.
The upper surface of the head 3 is substantially flat as at 5, being provided with the transverse grooves 6 and 7 near the rear end portion and having the reduced forwardly extending neck 8.
The last member 9 is shaped to fit within a shoe having the rear heel portion 10 and the forward toe portion 11. The under surface of the last member is substantially flat, as shown at 12 and provided near the rear end with the depending, transverse rib 13 and near the forward end with the spaced, depending lugs 14.
Ith-
Serial No. 551,793.
The rib 13 is arranged to be inserted in either of the grooves 6 or 7, the lugs 14 engaging opposite sides of the reduced neck 8 upon the base member.
With the last member in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, the heel portion 10 of the last member registers with the portion 4 of the base member, the rib 13 be ing inserted within the groove 6. In this position, the last is adapted for use upon a smaller size of shoe.
By moving the last member forwardly, as shown in dot and dash lines in Fig. 1, and inserting the rib 13 into the groove 7, the toe portion of the last member is extended forwardly the distance between the heel portion 4 of the base member and the toe portion 11 of the last member being thus increased, permitting the last to be used upon a larger size of shoe.
It will be evident that the last thus provided is simple in construction and easily adjusted to receive shoes of different sizes and that the rib l3 fitting within the transverse grooves in the base member and the lugs 14 engaging opposite sides of the reduced neck of the base member, will prevent side movement of the last member with reference to the base member.
I laim:
1. An adjustable shoe last including a base member having transverse grooves in its upper surface, a last member having a transverse rib in its under surface arranged.
to selectively engage either of the grooves in the base member, and depending lugs upon the last member for engaging the sides of the base member.
2. An adjustable shoe last including a base member having transverse grooves in its upper surface, a last member having a transverse rib in its under surface arranged to selectively engage either of the grooves in the base member, a reduced neck upon the base member and a pair of spaced lugs upon the last member for engaging the neck.
JOHN DOMINIOK.
