JAMES W. LEARY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO INTERNATIONAL CIGAR MACHINERY COMPANY, OF NEW YORK,
N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
DEALING PIN FOR MACHINES FOR nmovms CIGAR BUNCHES FROM MOLDS.
Application filed. October 20, 1921. Serial No. 508,964.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. LEARY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Impaling Pins for Machines for Removing Cigar Bunches from Molds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in impalin pins for machines for removing cigar bunc es from molds and it consists in certain constructions which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
In the patents to Tyberg, Nos. 947,869, 947,870 and 947,871, all granted February 1, 1910, there are disclosed machines for re moving cigar bunches from molds which are equipped with impaling pins by means of which bunches are removed from a mold.
, The bunches are compressed in the molds to a, definite size but not always to a definite density, because one bunch may have a little more or less tobacco in it than others and therefore be an abnormal bunch in so far as its density is concerned. In practice, the
pins of the machines referred to sometimes deform or tear out of a bunch of abnormal density. It has been discovered that'this can be avoided by usin a pin of a different form, and the production of such a pin is the main object, of the present invention.
In the accompanying, drawings, which form a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate the same or like parts, Fig.1 is a side elevation of an impaling pin constructed in accordance with the invention, and Fig. 2 is a cross-sec- 4 tional view taken on the line 22 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 3 indicates the round supporting section of an impaling pin by means of which it is connected to the pin supporting bar of themachines before referred to. The pin further has an effective section 4 which is triangular in cross-section and adapted to impale a bunch in a mold and lift it therefrom. The pin is made from round rod'stock and the edges of theeffective section 4 are coincident with the periphery of the round section 3. As in the machines before referred to, a plurality of these pins are used and supported by a single bar in such manner that one of the flat surfaces of the triangular effective section of each pin lies uppermost when the bunch is impaled. It has been found thatthis form of impaling pin causes less disturbance of a bunch filler during impaling action, and avoids the bunch tearing heretofore encountered.-
What is claimed is:
1. An impaling pin for machines for removing cigar bunches from molds said pin having an effective section which is triangular in cross-section and adapted to lift the bunch, from the mold by the engagement with the bunch of one of the flat surfaces of said pin.
2. An impaling pin for machines for removing cigar bunches from molds said pin having a round supporting section and an effective section which-is triangular in crosssection and adapted to lift the bunch from the mold by the engagement with the bunch of one of the fiat surfaces of said pin.
3. An impaling pin for machines for removing cigarbunches from molds said pin having a round supporting section and an effective section which is triangular in crosssection and adapted to lift the bunch from the mold by the engagement with the bunch of one of the flat surfaces of said pin, the edges of the triangular section of said pin being coincident with the periphery of its round section.
4. An impaling pin for machines for removing cigar bunches from molds said pin having an effective section which is triangular in cross section.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
Juices w. LEARY.
