F TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
Application filed January To all ywhom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GRIFFIN WILLIAMS JONES, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Untario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Sponge lslountings for Finger Moisteners, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sponge mountings for linger moisteners and the object of the invention is to devise a simple and effective means for rotatably a finger moistener of the ordinary type so that the periphery of the sponge will be exposed.
d further object is to devise such a mounting which can be readily clipped onto and removed from the water container.
My invention consists of means for mounting the sponge in the water container all as hereinafter more particularly described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. l represents an elevational view of a sponge and container showing my means for mounting the former in the latter.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof.
Fig. 3 is a plan view, and
Fig. 4 is an elevational detail of my means for mounting the sponge in the container.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different views.
l is the water container, which is preferably constructed of the usual bowl-shape and is ordinarily constructed of glass. 2 is the sponge having the orifice 3 therethrough. l is wire extending freely through the orifice El in the sponge and provided with the downwardly directed U-shaped lugs 5, the extremities 6 of the wire preferably being positioned horizontally so as to constitute hooks.
ln applying the rod 4 to the sponge, one end is preferably bent as shown, and the other left straight, the straight end being pushed through the orifice 3 and then formed into the shape illustrated. rlhe sponge is inserted into the water container and held in place by the extremities 6 of the rod engaging the lip of the container, while the U-shaped lugs engage the interior thereof. On reference to the drawing it will be seen that the main portion of the rod 4f is slightly bowed and such rod is preferably constructed of wire with a certain amount of spring to it, such as hardened brass wire.
2o, i923. serial No. 613,909.
ln applying the rod to the container it will be seen that the ends are sprung inwardly a certain extent to permit the lugs 5 to pass the inner edge' of the lip of the container and when released the rod will assume the position -illustrated in the drawing.
Where it is desired to use the sponge in counting bank notes, bonds and other papers where itis necessary to meisten the lingers it is found that a sponge rotatably mounted on edge in a container is much more effective than the ordinary sponge lying therein, as the user can readily turn the sponge to get a freshly moistened surface.
llhile my invention is particularly designed for the above use it is to be understood that it could with equal efiicacy be used for moistening gum on envelope flaps, moistening stamps and other similar purposes and could with equal facility be mounted by my mounting in any shape of container by merely altering the angle of the lugs 5.
`What l claim as my invention is.
l. The combination with the liquid container and the sponge, of a rod extending freely therethrough in a transverse direction and having hook shaped ends adapted to engage the lip of the container.
2. The combination with the liquid container and the sponge, of a rod extending freely therethrough in a transverse direction and having hook shaped ends adapted to engage the lip of the container, said rod being constructed of resilient material.
3. The combination with the liquid container and the sponge, of a rod extending freely therethrough in a transverse direction and having hook shaped ends adapted to engage the lip of the container, said rod having downwardly directed U-shaped lugs terminating in outwardly extending ends, said lugs and outwardly turned ends adapted to engage respectively the inside face of the lip and its upper edge.
d. The combination with the liquid container and the sponge, of a rod extending freely therethrough in a transverse direction and having hook shapedpends adapted to engage the lip of the container, saidk rod having downwardly directed U-shaped lugs terminating in outwardly extending ends, said lugs and outwardly turned ends adapted to engage respectively the inside face of the lip and its upper edge, said rod being con- JONES.
structed of resilient material.
