T. S. WAIT SHADE PULL Feb.: 5, 1924.

THADDEUS S. WAIT, OF STURGIS, MICHIGAN.
SHA'DE I PULL.
Application :tiledAugust- 3, 1923.- Serial No. 655,493.
To all wit-0m t vmay cou-cera.'
Be it known that I, THAeDEUsQS. VVArr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sturgis, county of St. Joseph, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade Pulls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shade pulls.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved shade pull which may be readily clamped upon a shade with the aid of a pair of pinchers or pliers, and one which when so applied is effectively attached and is neat and attractive in appearance.
Further objects, and objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims. A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a fragmentary view of a shade having one of my improved shade pulls attached thereto.
Fig. II is a vertical section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of` Fig. I, a pull chain being shown in full lines.
Fig. III is a detail horizontal section on a line corresponding to line 3--3 of Fig. I.
Fig. IV is a plan view of the blank from which the clip portion of my improved shade pull is formed.
In the drawing the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines and similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts in all of the views.
Referring to the drawing, l represents the shade and 2 the bottom bar thereof which is engaged within the hem or fold provided therefor as is usual practice. These bars 2 are commonly tapering cross section as illustrated.
My improved shade pull lcomprises a clip member 3 formed of sheet metal, the clip member being of a general U-shape and adapted to embrace the lower edge of the shade with the bar supported in the hem or fold thereof as is illustrated. rlhe side membersl or arms t-of thelclip are cupped or-pvrovided with edge flanges 5, the iianges being tapered toward the bight of the clip so that the edges of the flanges complement the tapered sides of the bar 2 and when the clip is clamped upon the shade the arms 4 are substantially parallel. rIhis enables the use of a pair of pliers in clamping or securing the clip to the shade, the edges of the clip grippingthe shade and also the brads 6 are forced into the bar as illustrated. The Hanging of the arms stiiens them so that they cannot spring or `bend as they are clamped upon the shade and the clip very effectively grips the shade as well as having a very neat and attractive appearance.
The bight portion of the clip is provided with a socket 7 to receive the swivel head 8 of the pull chain 9. In Fig. IV I illustrate the blank from which the clip is formed and it comprises, as will be noted, a portion l0 forming the bight 3, portions 11 forming the arms, portions 12 forming the flanges, and portions 13, the brads of the clip which are readily formed up from the blank by means of dies.
My improved` clip is economical to produce and, as stated, may be easily secured by means of al pair of pliers which are available in the average household.
Having thus described my invention what I 4claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A shade pull comprising a U-shaped clip adapted to be clamped upon the bottom bar of a shade, the arms of said clip being provided with flanges tapering toward the bight of the clip whereby when the clip is clamped upon a bar of wedge cross section the sides are substantially parallel, said flanges having brads on the edges thereof, the bight of said clip having a swivel socket therein, and a pull chain havinga swivel member engaging said socket.
2. A shade pull comprising a U-shaped clip adapted to be clamped upon the bottom bar of a shade, the arms of said clip being provided with flanges tapering toward the bight of the clip, whereby when the clip is clamped upon a bar of wedge cross section the sides are substantially parallel, said flanges having brads on the edges thereof.
8. A shade pull comprising a U-shaped clip having cupped arms disposed facing inwardly and conformed so that when clamped upon a bar of tapering cross section the sides of the clip are substantially parallel, said arms being provided With bar engaging brads, and a pull member engaged with the bight of said clip.
4. A shade pull comprising a U-sliaped clip having arms provided `With flanges tapering toward the bight thereof, Whereby when the clip is clamped upon a bar of tapering Cross section the arms are supported in a substantially parallel relation, said arms being provided with bar engaging brads, and a pull member engaged with the bight of said clip.
5. A shade pull comprising a U-shaped sheet metal clip adapted to be clamped upon the bottom bar of the shade, the arms of said Clip having inturned edge flanges, and bar engaging brads projecting 'from the edges of said flanges.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto Set 2H my hand.
