To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR VICTOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in rIoys, of which the' following is a specification.

In carrying out the present invention. it is my purpose to provide a toy, that is adapted to be roiled over the ground by children, and of such a nature as to prove highly amusing, the device while being rolled over the ground, simulating a well known mechanical movement.

A further purpose of the invention is the provision of such a toy that is comparatively simple of construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and of a durable nature, the same embodying relatively few parts, and these so correlated as to reduce the liability of derangement to a minimum.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein;

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof, partly in cross section, and

Figures 3, 1, 5 are perspectives of certain of the elements embodied in this invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 designates a handle of a desirable length, the same being preferably of a flat-like bar of wood and longitudinally slotted as at 6, adjacent its front end. Upon this front end of the handle is a laterally extending pintle 7, upon which is journaled a wheel 8, the periphery thereof being concaved for the reception of a rubber tire 9. Anydesirable means may be provided for maintaining the said wheel 8 upon the pintle, the most preferable means however, including a set screw 10 and washer 11.

Upon the outer face of the said wheel 8, and at a point oftl center is a laterally projecting pintle 12, to which is secured, the forward end of a pitman rod 13. As more clearly shown in Figure 4, the opposite end of this rod is provided with an inwardly extending spacing block 14, a portion thereof being reduced as at 15 for extension through the said slot 6 in the handle 5. The free end of this block 14: is provided with a washer 16, and loosely positioned over the said reduced portion 15 of the block and between the washer 16 and adjacent side of the handle 5 is one end of a link 17 which is formed at this end with an opening 18 for receiving saidl reduced portion of the block. A connecting rod 2O is loosely pivoted at its opposite ends as designated at 19 and 21 to the handle 5 and link 17, respectively, it being obvious that when the wheel 8 through the instrumentality of the handle 5 is pushed over the surface of the ground, the pitman 13, link 17 and connecting rod 2O will be so actuated as to simulate a wellknown inechanical movement, which will prove highly amusing to small children.

Although I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters-Patent is:

In a toy of the class described, a relatively elongated handle. a wheel `iournaled upon one end thereof, a rearwardly extending pitman rod loosely pivotally secured to an off center pintle upon the outer face of said wheel, an inwardly extending spacing block carried by the opposite end of said pitman rod and adapted for extension through a longitudinal slot within said handle, a connecting rod pivotally secured at one end to vsaid handle at a point remote from said slot, and a link between the projecting end of said spacing block and the opposite end of said connecting rod.
