mw @v WITNESS Patented oct. 23, 1923.
UNITED STATES GEORG-E T. PEARSONS, F NEW YORK, N. Y.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER.
Application filed September T 0 all w71 om t may conceit@ Be it known that I, Grenen T. PnARsoNs, a citizen ot the United States, residing in the borough ot Manhattan, in the city, county, and State ot' New York, have invented new and useful improvements in Fire Extinguishers, oi which the following` is a specification.
This invention relates to syringes adapted for lire extinquishers in which pumping mechanism is provided in a cylinder or reservoir to create an air pressure in the reservoir and such air pressure utilized. to eject a liquid contained in the reservoir, and it is the object ot the invention to provide improved means to connect the pumping mechanism with the reservoir and means to seal the pumping mechanism- 'from the liquid in the reservoir.
A. further object of the invention is to provide improved intake means to the outlet of the reservoir to automatically conneet the outlet to whichever end of the reservoir in lowermost position when the syringe is in operation, and to provide valve mechanism to control the discharge ot the liquid trom the outlet and to shut oil communication between the reservoir outlet and the reservoir.
Another object of the invention is to pro`- vide a syringe in which the reservoir has an extension oit reduced width along its side in which the pumpingr mechanism is mount ed, and a portion et larger dimensions to constitute the liquid carrying chamber of the reservoir.
In the drawing' accompanying and torming; part o1 this specification Figure 1 is a sectional sido elevation et a syringe showing an embodiment oi my invention, the section being' taken on the line 1 1 et Fig* ure 2.
Figure :2 is a cross sectional View taken substantially on the line 2-2 ot Figure 1 and looking in the direction ot the arrows.
Fig-ure 3 is a. sectional side elevation ot the piston chamber taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Figure 1 is a detail view of the operating handle.
Similar characters of reference designate like parts throughout the different views or". the drawing.
In the embodiment ot the invention shown 9, 1916. Serial No. 119,215.

A pumping mechanism, as stated, is mounted in the reduced portion f1 of the reservoir to be outside ot the enlarged or liquid carrying chamber to create an ejectingj iiuid pressure in the reservoir to torcibly eject the lire entinquishing liquid from the reservoir, and consists of a piston chamber or cylinder 7 connected at opposite ends to heads 9 and 10, the head or end 10 abutting against the reservoir end 6 and the bore therein being of the same diameter as the inside diameter of the. cylinder 7 and extending through said head 10 to register with an opening of the same diameter in the reservoir end 6. The outer end oi the bore is internally screw threaded Afor the en- @agement of a flanged perforated nut 11. A tube 18 is secu-red at its ends in the cylinder head extensions 12 and 13 and connects port 14 with the air inlet chamber 16. The cylinder` head projections 12 and 13 lie adjacent the wall of the re duced portion of the reservoir at the juncture of said reduced portion with the reservoir portion of enlarged diameter, and the the syringe is not in use the operating handle 2a has a cap or concaved portionV 50 to straddle the nut ll, and has opposite cam slots 5l :or the engagement ot' pins 52 projecting laterally from lthe nut 1l.
