Be it known that I, DANTE CAvrooHroLr, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Shooters, of which the following is a specilication, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toy shooters or devices designed to advance balls or other bodies in the playing of games of various kinds and classes and particularly in advancing such bodies in the endeavor to strike predetermined objects; and the object of the invention is to pro-vide a device of the class specified. which is simple in construction, eiicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are desig'- nated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a side end sectional view of my shooter device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the construction shown in Fig. 1 with parts in a different position; and,
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the shooter in elevation and with parts in a different position.
My improved shooter comprises a body 5 composed of sheet metal, one end of said body being folded around a rectangular block 6 as shown at 7 to form a handle member, and the other end of said body is substantially U-shaped in form and comprises a bottom 8 and side walls 9, the
vfree end portions of which are cut away as shown at 10, and the top of the side walls are cut out and bent inwardly to form keepers 11. The bottom 8 at a predetermined distance from the front of the shooter device is out out as shown at 12 and part of the cut away portion is -bent upwardly toform a wall 13 having an aperture 14therein. Between the wall 13 Aand the front face of the block 6, the shooter device has side walls 15 only, and one of these side walls is provided with a recess 16 as shown' in Figs. 1 and 3.y
A plunger rod 17 is mounted in an aperture 18 in the block 6 and extends forwardly,

and passes through the aperture 14 in the wall 13, and the front end portion of the rod 17 is provided with a head 19, and substantially centrally of said rod is an offset loop-shaped trigger` portion 20. A spiral spring 21 is mounted on the rod 17 between the trigger 20 and the front face of the block 6, and this spring serves to advance the rod 17 as hereinafter described.
The trigger 2O projects below the botto-m of the gun, and in setting the gun, the rod 17 is moved backwardly by a finger pressing upon the trigger 20, and the trigger is moved upwardly at one side of the shooter into the recess 16 in oneof the side walls 15- A ball or other member 22 indicated in dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing may be placed in the receiver 23 formed by the bottom 8 and side walls 9 of the shooter device, and this ball is retained against accidental displacement from the receiver 23 by. a retainer member 24 pivotally mounted in connection with the side walls 9 as shown at 25, and one end of which is beaded as shown at 26 and the other end of which is beaded to form a finger piece 27. In advancing the ball 22, the trigger 20` is pressed downwardly by the Ithumb of the hand grasping the handle member of the shooter, when said trigger is released from the recess 16, the rod 17 will be suddenly advanced bythe spring 21 to discharge the body 2O from the receiver 23, and in this operation, the retainer member 24 is raised by the ball.
I also slidably mount upon the handle portion of the shooter and the side walls 15 thereof, a safety or lock sleeve 28 provided at its front edge with a recess 29 adapted to receive the' trigger 2O or the shank thereof, and this sleeve prevents the accidental operation of the shooter device or prevents the downward movement of the trigger 20, as will be readily understood.
My improved shooter device may be used for many purposes but is particularly designed for use in advancing balls or other bodies in the playing of shooting games, in which the ballor other 'body is advanced from a floor, table or other surface to knock down or strike certain vobjects or things or to advance' the ballinto grooves, pockets, recesses or the like in games of various kinds and classes, and while I have shown certain 'details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, it will-be understood that l am not necessarily limited te these details and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is zl. A shooter of the class described comprising a handle portion, forwardly of which is aboX-shaped'recciver into which an object to be advanced is adapted to be placed, a spring actuated rod mounted in the shooter and extending into said receiver and adapted to discharge an object from said receiver, said rod being provided with an integral trigger' device for controlling the operation thereof, thev shank of the shooter being provided with a recess adapted to receive said trigger device foi'.1 retaining said rod in predetermined position against the tension of said spring, and means for locking the trigger device against movement. j
2. A shooter of the class described comprising a handle portion, forwardly of which isa box-shaped receiver into which an object to be advanced is adapted to be placed, a spring actuated rod mounted in the shooter and extending into said receiver and adapted to discharge an `object from said receiver, said rod being provided' with an integral trigger device for controlling the operation thereof, the shank of the shooter being` provided with a recess adapted to receive said trigger device for retaining' said rod in predetermined position against the tension of said spring, and means for locking thev trigger device against movement, comprising a sleeve adjustably mounted on the shank of the shooter.

A shooter of the class described com-- prising a handle portion, forwardly of which is a box-shaped receiver intoy which an object to be advanced is adapted to be placed, a springactuated rod mounted in the shooter and extending into said receiver and adapted to discharge an object from said receiver, said'rod being provided with an integral trigger device for controlling` the operation thereof,y the shank of the shooter being provided with a recess adapted to receive said trigger' device for retaining` said rod in predetermined position againstthe tension of said spring, means for locking the trigger device against movement, comprising a sleeve adjustablv mounted on the, shank of the shooter, and means for retaining an object to be advanced, against accidental' displacement from said receiver.

A shooter of the class described comprising a handle portion, forwardlyv of which is a ybox-shaped receiver into which an object t0 be advanced is adapted to be placed, a spring actuated rod mounted in the shooter and extending into said receiver and adapted to discharge an object from said receiver, said rod being provided with an integral trigger device for controlling the operation thereof1 the shank of the shooter being provided with a recess adapted to receive said trigger device for retaining said rod in predetermined position against the tension of said spring, means for locking the trigger device against movement comprising a sleeve adjustably mounted on the shank of the shooter, and means for retaining an object to be advanced, against accidental displacement from said receiver, said means comprising a member pivotally mounted in said receiver.

A toy shooter of the class described comprising a sheet metal body, one end Aof which is fashioned to form bottom and side walls, the other end portion being fashioned to receive a rectangular block to form a handle member, and said handle member and first named end portion of the shooter being joined by a shank composed of side walls, an upwardly directed wall at the back of the front end portion of the shooter, a rod mounted in the block of the handle portion of the shooter and the front end of which projects through said wall, and provided forwardly of saiid wall with an enlarged head, said rod being provided with an offset portion forming a trigger device, a spring mounted on said rod between said block and said trigger device and by means of which said rod is operated in one direction, and one of the side walls of the shank being provided with a recess adapted to receive and retain the trigger device in predetermined position.

A toy shooter of the class described comprising a sheet metal body, one end of which is fashioned to form bottom and side walls, the other end portion being fashioned to receive a rectangular block to form a handle member, and said handle member and first named end portion of the shooter being joined by a shank composed of side walls, an upwardly directed wall at the back of the front end portion of the shooter, a rod mounted in the block of the handle portion of the shooter and the front end of which projects through said wall, and provided forwardly of said wall with an enlarged head, said rod being provided with an offset portion forming a trigger device, a. spring mounted on said rod between said block and said trigger device and by means of which said rod is operated in one direction, one of the side Walls of the shank being provided with a recess adapted to receive and retain the trigger device in predetermined position, and a sleeve slidably mounted on the shank and pro-vided with a recess adapted to cooperate with said trigger device for locking the sameragainst movement.

A toy shooter of the class described comprising a sheet metal body, one end of which is fashioned to form bottom and side walls, the other end portion being fashioned to receive a rectangular block to form a handle member, and said handle member and first named end portion of the shooter being joined by a shank composed of side walls, an upwardly directed wall at the back of the front end portion of the shooter, a rod mounted in the block of the handle portion of the shooter and the front end of which projects through said wall. and provided forwardly of said wall with an enlarged head, said rod being provided with an offset portion forming a trigger device, a spring mounted on said rod between said block and said trigger device and by means of which said rod is operated in one direction, one of the side walls of the shank being provided with a. recess adapted to receive and retain the trigger device in predetermined position, a sleeve slidably mounted on the shank and provided with a. recess adapted to cooperate with said trigger device for locking the 'same against movement, and the front end portion of the shooter forming a receiver into which an object to be advanced by said rod is adapted to be placed, and means for retaining an object against accidental displacement from said receiver.
