On the shaft 5 there is loosely journaled a hollow shaft or tube 26 which has its ends extending through the bearing opens ings in the sides of the receptacle for the said shaft 5. Fixed on the ends of the sleeve 26there are cam wheels 27, and on the outer face of one of the cam wheels there is a toothed wheel 28 in mesh with one of a pair of toothed idlers 29, the second idler being in mesh with the toothed wheel 17. Also on the sleeve or hollow shaft 26 there is a larger toothed wheel 30 in mesh with one of a train of idlers 31 respectively having stub shafts, similar to the other idlers projecting from one side of the receptacle 1. One of the end idlers is in mesh with apinion 32 keyed on one end of the shaft 23. Arranged for vertical reciprocatory movement in the casing 1 there is a transversly disposed knife 33 disposed in a line with an opening 34 in the bottom 15 of the casing, and this opening is surrounded by a trough 35 in which the cut lard is received. On the bottom 15 there is secured an adjustable stop 36 designed for contact by the lard, slitted by the rotary knives or disks 18 to hold the lard in a position tov be out by the knife 33. The knife 33 is secured in a head block 37, the said block having lugs 38 that project through vertithe sides of the receptacle.

The spring is designed to force a roller 43 journaled on the lower angle end 44 of each rod 40 into contacting engagement with the peripheryof the cam wheels 27.
Below the mouth, at the front, of the receptacle there are secured to the sides thereof blocks 45 which have their upper and downwardly inclined edges provided with spaced curved depressions forming bearings for trunnions on the ends of rollers 46-. The lard is fed directly on to the rollers 46 and from thence between the ribbed wheels 25 and 13. The lard is delivered on to the slitting disk cutters against the stop 36, the knife 33 being in elevated position when the lard is thus fed. \Vhen the cam wheels pass off of the elevated portions of the cam wheels the springs will force the knives downwardly to position illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings, so that the lard is I 7 cut into blocks and falls into the trough 35. Becauseof the difi'erentsized toothed wheels and the idlers employed, one revolution of the wheel 8 causes the ribbed roll-' knife is held elevate means, and it is, of course, to be understood that idlers of different sizes than those dis" ers 13 to make five revolutions and the disk carrying shaft ten revolutions. It is thought that the tion, when taken in connection with the foregoing descripdrawings will fully set forth the construction, operation and advantages of the im-- provement to those skilled in the 'art to which such inventions relate, but it is to be understood that the nature of the invention is such as to render the same susceptible to such changes and, modifications as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
