TouZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, AucnmL. CnRrsTIAN, a citizen or" the. United. States, residing at Beaver City, in the county of Furnas and State of Nebraska, have inventeda new and useful Curtain'Holder for Doors of Automobiles, of which the following is a speciiication.

The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for the doors of automobiles adapted to hold a curtain in place on the door as the door swings on its hinges and thus prevent the flapping of the curtain; to provide a device which is readily removed; and to provide the novel structure disclosed in the accompanying drawings. I attain these and other objects of my invention by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front plan view of the invention mounted in a curtain, as it appears in use on an automobile;

Fig. 4 is a detail sectional View of member l.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, I provide a horizontal curtain holding rod 1 having a vertical arm 2, as shown in Fig. 3 and which arm may, if desired, be extended diagonally to provide the extension .3 for engaging the top of the curtain. The

rodl has its end mounted in or afiixed to the collar 4 which is provided with an L- shaped downwardly extending arm 5. Collar i is provided with a threaded socket 9 to releasably hold the threaded end of extension curtain rod 6 which is provided with oii'set portion 7 and a downwardly extending end 8 positioned in approximately the'same longitudinal plane as the arm 5, that is in the longitudinal plane of the door. The object of providing the ottset arm 5 is to bring the supporting members in the longitudinal plane of the door and to bring the rod 2 closer to the adjoining curtain of the automobile; and for the further purpose of tightening the curtain 11. By positioning member 5' in an offset relatlon to red 1, the curtain has a tendency to pull.

rod 2 outwards and the adjustment of threaded nut 9 of rod 6 permits of proper adjustment.

The curtain 11 is provided with a suitable pocket 12 partially encircling the border of the curtain and adapted to receive the bent metal rods 1, 2, 3, (5 and 7 which hold he curtain in place on or above the door 10 of the automobile. Downwardly extending arms 5 and 8 suitably engage in the top of the door so that the entire curtain will swing with the door when the door is opened. By unscrewing or screwing up the rod 6 in the socket 9 of collar l the curtain holder may be lengthened or shortened to suit the particular curtain and door on to which it is applied. A further advantage in having the rod 6 releasably mounted in collar 1 is that it may be unscrewed to permit of the convenient removal of the device and its convenient packing for transportation, when not required for use on the automobile door. The holder holds the curtain in place over the opening so as to etl'ectually exclude rain and snow, while not interfering with the normal use of the door of the automobile.

What I claim is:

1. A curtain holding device for automobile doors, consisting of a rod suitably shaped to seat in a curtain pocket extending around the edge of the bottom and one side of the curtain, means for releasably securing said rod in place on the door of the automobile, and an extension rod longitudinally adjustable and detachable relatively to the first mentioned rod and operatively connected therewith, said last named rod having a down-turned end to engage the automobile door.

2. A curtain holding device for automobile doors, consisting of a rod suitably bent to extend around a considerable portion of the edge of the curtain and seated in a pocket arranged along the border of the curtain, a'collar to which the end of said rod is attached, said collar having an arm engaging the automobile door, and a curtain holding extension rod adjustably engaged for longitudinal adjustment in and detachment from the collar.

3. A curtain holding device for automobile doors, consisting of a rod suitably bent to extend around a considerable portion of the edge of the curtain and seated in a pocket arranged along the border of the curtain, a collar to which the end of said rod is attached, said collar having fan arm engaging the automobile door, and a curtain holding extension rod for longitudinal'adjustment in and detachable from the collar, Said rod having an offset portion terminating in a downwardly turned end to engage the door, said end lying in the same plane" with the downwardly turned arm attached 1 to the above described collar.
