EAR PROTECTOR.
Application filed June 7, 1920, Seriai'Nc BSZOOS.
subjected to the action ofthe wind.
An important object .of our invention is to provide a device of the above character which may be readily andquickly applied and which is neat in appearance.
"A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which, when subjected to the wind; will have a tendency to cling more closely to the ear and protect the same.
Other objects-and advantages of the invention will become apparent throughout 7 the, course of the-following description.
i ear. This body portion is provided upon In the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of lllustration 1s a shown a preferredembodiment of our invention,
and wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout-,5
Figure 1 is a perspective view of our ear protector, and V r Figure 2 is a sectionalview taken therethrough.
Referring now more-particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates our car 1 protector as a whole, the protector preferably being formed of a sheet of transparent material, suchas celluloid, or the like.
The protector embodies a body portion 11 which is adaptedtocover-the funnelof the its forward face with an angular extension 12 which is adapted to'contact with'the side of the face between the 'eariand the cheek bone and which is adapted'to fit tightly against the face at. the point of junction.
The body portion f-lO is provided at the upper portion thereof with a vertical extension which is adapted to be bent back upon itself to form a hooked'portion 13.
Renewed November 15, 1922. Serial No. 601,165.
adapted-to engage against the rear face of the funnel of the ear at the upper portion thereof and adjacent the junction of the car with the head. The body portion is likewise provided, at its lower end, with a longitudinal extension 15, adapted to be bent back upon itself and serving in the co1nplet ed device as a hook for engaging the lobe of the ear and retaining the bottom portion of the body portion in position.
It has been found in actual practice that a device of this character when applied to the ear will not be affected by the action of the wind other than such action causing the body portion 10 to grip against the ear more firmly, the forward extension 12 effectually preventing the wind from passing under the forward edge of the body portion and raising the same from the ear.
It will be obvious that while we have shown and described our car protector as provided with attaching means formed inmeans may be employed in securing the same to the ear, the unitary construction merely being employed for the purpose of reducing the cost, of manufacture.
V tegrally'therewith, any suitable attaching re Having now described our invention, 30
what We claim is: y
1. In an ear protector, a substantially flat plate fitting against the outer side of the ear of the wearer provided with integral hook shaped extensions adapted to engage the car of the wearer and likewise provided with an integral extension adapted to lie against the check of the wearer.
2; In an ear protector, a substantially flat plate fitting. against the outer side of the 99 ear of the wearer provided upon the upper portion thereof with an integral hook shaped extension adapted to engage the upper portion ofthe funnel of the ear adjacent its juncture with the head and upon IM its lower with a second hook shaped extension adapted to similarly engage the lobe of the ear, and likewise provided with an angularly disposed integral extension adapted to lie against the check of the wearer.
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix our signaturesl r r ERNEST CAMP.
ALBERT F. SCHATZEL.
