To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOHN O. McKnaN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of VVestfield, in the county of Hampden and .State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and. useful Improvement. in Slub Catchers,
or which following is a specification.
The objectof my invention is to provide Ia novel formof slub catcher having a yarn clearing hole; which will bereadily adjustable for yarns of :various sizes; through which the yarn may be easily and quickly threaded; and which will not ohafe nor E scrape the yarn,

The bracket as herein constructed oomprises the longitudinal portion 1 terminating at one end in a turn-back portion 2 and at its other end in uprising ears-3 and 4:.
A loop is formed at one side of the portion 1 of the bracket, which loop comprises the lateral branches 5 and 6, connected by the longitudinal branch 7. An arm 8 projects forwardlyfrom the lateral branch 6 to form a suitable yarn support in the tension device.
A pin 9 uprises from the arm 8, upon which pin is loosely mounted the weighted tension disc 10, between which disc and the top surface of the arm 8 the yarn is passed on its way to the slub catcher to be hereinafter described. The lug 11 projects laterally from the portion 1 of the bracket in the opposite direction from the branch 6 of the loop, into which lug is screwed the pivot pin 12 on which a vertically yielding lateral swinging guard 13 is pivoted. The vertically yielding movement of this guard is provided for in the present instance by a recess 14, within which there is located a coil spring 15, interposed between the bottom of the recess and the head of the pin 12. The outer end of this washer guard 13 is provided with a portion 16 which projects over the weighted washer 10 and on top of the pin 9 of the tension device when the guard is in its operative position.
Means are provided for yieldingly holding the guard in its operative position,

When the guard is swung back out'of its operative position, the weighted washer 10 maybe readily removed tromthe pin 9.
The slub catcher for the yarn comprises two coacting members, one having a slot with walls forming a portion of the yarn clearing hole, and the other with a graduated surface forming the remaining portion ofthe said yarn clearing hole.
' In the present instance the fined-member is the branch 5 of the loop hereinbefore described, which branch is shown as provided with a horizontal slot 19 across its upper face,- the divergent walls of which slot form two sides of a triangular yarn clearing hole.
The other memberot the slab catcher is herein. shown as comprising a two armed lever pivoted between the lugs 8 and l ofthe bracket on'a horizontally arranged pin 21; bne'armof this lever maybe provided with a handle 22 for manipulating the lei er. The other arm of the lever is provided with a rotatively adjustable disc havingits circumferentially graduated peripheralsurface 24 disposed lengthwise along the horizontal slot 1901 the other member, to form the third side 01: the triangular yarn clearing hole. This disc is pivoted-to the lever by the screw 25 which passes axially through the disc into the said lever. The disc is provided: with a concentric series of 'holesj26,

This rotative adjustment oi the' disc-is accomplished by loosening the screw 25 su'fliciently to permit the lateral movement oithe disc, to free it from engagement witht'he pin adjusted positionand then moved laterally into engagement with the pin 27, when the screw 25' may be tightened to lock the parts "in their adjusted position.
Means are employed for yieldingholding the coacting members of the slub catcher together, which means is herein shown as a coil spring 28 extending between the bracket and lever. To open the'ya-jrn clearing hole to permit the threading of the yarn, the disc may be lifted out of the slot 19 by depressing the handle 22 of the lever 20 against the tension of 't'he spring 28. It will be understood that the rotative-adjnstment of the disc will change the size of the yarn clearing hole because of the graduated perip e urface of the disc, to suit yarns of various sizes; this adjustment ofthe size of the yarn clearinghole being of a very' fine deg ee so as to ensure the best results in clearing theyarn; It Will-also be seen that only one yarn clearing hole maybe provided, the two coasting members of theslub catcher being capable of adjustment to change the size of the hole to suit yarns of various sizes and alsobeingcapableof movement to open the hole to permit the threading of the yarn.

In a slub catcher, two coacting members, one having a yarn receiving slot and the other provided with a disc having a graduated peripheral surface disposed lengthwise along said slot to form a yarn clearing hole, said disc being rotatively adjustable to bring different portions of said graduated peripheral surface within the slot to change the size of the hole, said disc being also movable bodily to open the hole, means carried by the movable member for deflecting the yarn before it reaches the hole 'torequire the opening of the hole for the proper threading of the yarn, and means for yieldingly holding the members together.
