BOTTLE CLOSURE.
Application filed June 24, 1922. Serial No. 570,556.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ConNnLrs GIJsnnRTUs VAN DER LEE, a manufacturer, residing at Utrecht, \Veerdsingel XV. Z. 18 B, the Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Closures, of which the following is a specification.
' The invention relates to a bottle-closure comprising a hasp of the kind as used for 16 the known closures with stone or porcelain stoppers, saidhasp being adapted to he secured to the bottle. p
The known closures with stone or porcelain stoppers have the disadvantage, that impurities stick fast easily between the rubber ring embracing the stopper and the latter, and that it is diffcult to clean these closures.
In a bottle-closure according to the invention the above disadvantages are removed by reason of the fact that the porcelain or stone stopper is substituted by acap having a bent edge, adapted to contain a washer of rubber. cork or similar resilient material. the said cap being provided with two perforated lugs through which the hasp is passed in such a manner, that it presses the cap on the bottle when closing the latter.
The invention will be more fully understood with reference to the accompanying drawings. illustrating an embodiment of the invention.
The figure is a side elevationof a bottle neck with the closure attached thereto.
In the drawings 1 is the neck of the bottle; to which the known hasp, consisting of the parts t and 6, is secured. The part 4: is bent according to the neck circumference and is connected to the other hasp-part 6 by means of an eye 5. the latter part 6 being pivoted at 7 to lugs 8 of the cap 9. This cap contains a washer of rubber. cork or another suitable resilient material. secured in the cap by agroove 1.1 obtained by a as rolling or other operation.
The invention is, however, not restricted to this embodiment. Instead of by means of a groove 11 the washer may be secured also otherwise. An additional securing device may also be omitted, so that the washer is retained in place by, the bent edge itself. The rubber or cork washer can thus be replaced readily.
In a simple manner a perfect closure is obtained in which the washer of rubber. cork or other resilient material can not be easily lost and in which impurities as e. milksediments cannot stick fast between the washer and the cap. and mix with the fresh milk after having closed a filled bottle.
In particular for this reason the closure according to the invention should be preferred from a hygienic point of view over the known ones. Further spoiling the bottie-as well as the washer is easily avoided.
The cap may be made of any convenient material in various strengths and dimensions, which is important either for the use of theclosure for bottles of different volume or for the use of bottles of current dimensions.
Having. now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention. what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Bottle-closure comprising a hasp adapted tobe secured to the bottle-neck. a cap having'a downwardly projecting circumferential flange. overlying the bottle neck. a wash er of resilient material adapted to be held in the cap by means of a peripheral groove rolled in the cap and two upstanding perforated lugs below the groove on the cap formed by bending upward a portion of said flange, and adapted to receive the hasp in such a manner that it presses the cap on the bottle when closing the latter.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CORNELIS GIJSBERTUS van der LEE.
