L. C. RIDGE FILING APPARATUS Filed April 19. 1922 Patented Sept. 18,'y 1923":
:UNITED STATES PATE-Nil* ortica h FILING ArrAEA'rus. 7 g
To all whom it may concern:
Bei it known that I, LEONARD CInYTON RIDGE, a subject of the Kin of Great Britain, and resident of 1411 oyal Bank Building, city of Toronto, county of York,-
.be perused without the necessity of removing same, to provide a form of folder support which may be adapted to any form of cabinet and generally to provide a form of filing apparatus which will be inexpensive of construction and etlicient in operation.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a drawer of ancabinet; equipped ac- `cording to the present invention, portions of the walls being broken away to disclose the interior.
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing a folder constructed from a single piece O iiexible material.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a portion of a'cabinet showing a modified form of trackway, or support for one end `of a folder support.
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the manner of securing the trackways to the cabinet where the edge oft the cabinet is curled.
Figure 5 is a perspective view showing the end of a trackway secured to a drawer having a wall of a type different from those shown in Figures 1, 3 and 4.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
Referring to the drawings A isa drawer of conventional form, comprising a bottom 1, end walls 2 and 3 and side walls 4.-
5 are longitudinally arranged trackways adapted to be supported in parallel arrangement on opposite sid of the cabinet A and consisting of metal rodsv having their straight ends 6 embedded in the end wall 3 Application and April 1s, 1922'. 'serial En: 555,623.
directly above the side walls '4 and spaced suiiiclently therefrom to ermit of the folder supports sliding freely-t ereon, and having comparatively short right angle ends or legs 7 turned downwardly and embedded in the top edge of the drawer. v A
8 are bars adapted for transverse arrangement 1n relation to the drawer and having reduced ends 9 bentl to the form of'substantlally closed eyes engaging the .o posing trackways 5 and ermitting of said bars slidingl longitudine ly of the drawer thereon.
10 are cords or strips of flexible material, of'which there may be any desired number, counectlng adjacent bars 8 at intervals throughout the lengthof said bars and forming loop members 11 adapted for the receptlon of documents. If desirable each pair of .adjacent bars 8 may be connected by individual cords 10, or as'shown in the drawings a plurality of cords may be used, each connected at its ends to the endmost bars and simply looping around the intermediate bars.
In Figure 2 of the drawings the document or folder supports are shown as consisting of a single piece 12 of. flexible material scured to each individual bar 8 so as to forni [loop members 13.
When setting upjthe trackways 5 they may be installed in a true strai ht line or horizontal position as shownin igure 1, or they may be bowed slightly if desirable by simply exerting slight inward pressure on the legs 7 and securing same to the cabinet in this condition.
' In Figure 3 ofthe drawings the trackways are shown as having elongated legs 14 extending downwardly at each end of the drawer and rojecting into or through openings in the ottom thereof, said trackways being held against inward movement by simply securing one or both of the end riders or bars 8 against m'ovement longitudinally of the cabinet, for which purpose clips 15 of any convenient type may be employed.
:In Figure 3 the legs 14 are shown as bent or turned outwardly to position the trackway directly over the side wall 4,
In Figure 4 the side wall of the drawer is shown as being curled as at 16 while in Fig- .ure 5 said side wall is indented or bent forming laterally projecting walls 17, and in installing the trackways in drawers having walls of this type it is simply necessary to xprovide the top and bottom walls of the projecting portions with openings and insert the right-angle ends of the trackways.
In the operation of this invention access 1s had to the desired folder by simply spreading apart the adjacent bars which slide freely along the trackways on o posite sides of the drawer, which has the e ect of opening the desired cradle or loop and bringing the contents clearly into view.
What I claim is:
1. In filing apparatus a drawer having side walls and end walls, trackways supported above said side walls and aced therefrom, bars arranged transverse y of said drawer and having eye ends engaging opposing trackways and a plurality of flexible strips connecting` said bars at intervals therealong and forming looped supports between adjacent bars.
2. In filing apparatus, a drawer having side and end walls, rods extending arallel with one another, and with said si e walls and having their ends embedded in the walls of said drawer and forming trackways, bars connecting opposing trackways and slidable thereon, and flexible folders in the form of strings connectin said bars and forming loops between adjacent bars.
3. In filing apparatus, a cabinet having a bottom and side and end Walls, trackways comprising rods embedded at one end in one of the said end walls above the respective side walls, and having their other ends turned at right angles andembedded in the versely arranged bars loose y connectin said bars and slidable thereon, and iiexible 'older supports in the form of strings connecting said bars and forming loops between adjacent bars.
5. In filing apparatus, a cabinet, parallel bars mounted above the side walls of said cabinet and having their ends embedded in said cabinet, transverse folder supports slidable on said bars and movable towards and awa from one another, and a plurality of flexi le members extending longitudinally of said cabinet in spaced parallel arrangement and secured to each of said folder supports and forming flexible cradles therebetween.
Signed at the city of Toronto, Ont., this 31st day of March, 1922.
LEONARD CLAYTON RIDGE.
