U i" T maar HARVEY CONlOVER, OF CHICAGO, ILLII'NOIS` i DOLL.
Application led May 9, 1921` To all whom 'it may concern,
Be it known that I, HARVEY CoNovER, a citizen of the TUnited States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful ImprovementV in Dolls, of which the following is a specification.`
This invention relates to dolls for especial use in entertaining small children. 'ihe object of the .invention'is vto provide a doll of attractive form with an umbrella or other head decoration of sufficient 4size so that different faces may be concealed behind this head decoration and swung one Vby one into view as the face of the doll, thereby changing' materially the character of the doll and increasing the attractiveness and value of theA doll just as though there were several dolls provided, but with only o e expense.
Another object of the invention is to provide such doll with a moving face carrier which if moved with sufficient rapidity and with the necessary stop and start motion, will serve the effect of changing the facial expression of the doll just as motion picture expressions change and thus add .to the use of the doll in entertaining a child.
The invention consists in means for carryout the foregoing objects which can be' easily and cheaplymade, which isusatisfactor)Y in use and is not readily liable to get out of order. More particularly the invention consists in features and details of construction hereinafter more fully set forth inv the specification and claim. Referring to the drawings in which like numerals denote like parts,
Figure l is a face view of a doll mechanisin illustrating this invention in its preferred form. Y
Figure 2 is a sectional detail view on the line 2 2, Figure l.
In carrying out this invention a figure of a doll l0, such as shown in the drawing, or any other desired form may be provided, the only essential point being that the body be surmounted by a large decorative member, in the particular case here illustrated an umbrella top l2, provided with a handle 14' grasped by the hand 16.-
Serial No. 468,093. Y
The Vpartsjthus far described are made of cardboard or other convenient material, and
there is provided at a proper point for the tist who draws them, but should preferablyV vary in given facial expression from laughter to tears and back again so that when the disk 22 is rotated to expose the successive faces on the areas 25-29, dolls of different expression will be produced from the original doll ligure.
Attention is called to the fact that the ligure of the doll, viz., the dress outline, is cut away to make 4anattractive doll figure for decorative or childrens play purposes and that this is rendered possible in combination with the changeable face feature by the fact that the face carrying Vdisc is pivoted above the dolls head, instead of below it, as in soinerprior devices.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: Y
vA cut out full length ligure ofa dressed and hatted doll having aV face vperforation and a disc pivoted above the dolls head toV rotate behind the doll ligure, carrying a plurality of faces adapted` as the disc is rotated, to successively appear at said face Yperfora-k tion, for the purposes 4set forth. v
Y In witness whereof I have hereunto sub scribed my name inthe presence'of two witl'leSSeS. Y
HARvE Y Yooivovinn.
