Description

Aug. 28, 1923. v 1,466,291
J. H. 'BEEBY GAS BURNER Filed 'oct., 8. "1921 Inventor John [13 e eby.
Attorney.
Patented Aug, 28, 1923.
JOHN H. BEEBY, OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADAQ" GAS BURNER.
Application filed Optober 8, 1921. Serial ITo. 506,535.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN .H. BEEBY, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ottawa, in the county of Carleton and Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Burners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improve ments in gas burners adapted for use in gas, wood or coal stoves and particularly appertains to the exit opening of the said gas burner. 1
The principal object of the invention is to provide a burner having a spreader adjustably positioned at the discharge end thereof, which spreader acts as a protective member and is a controlling means for the egress of the combustive elements in the mixing chamber of said burner.
With these and other aims and objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
The drawing illustrates in a fragmentary vertical medial section, a device constructed in accordance with the invention. certain parts being shown in elevation and sundry elements being indicated diagrammatically.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 indicates the body of the burner which is provided with an upset terminal as indicated by the numeral 2. This upset terminal 2 is provided with a conical seat 3. The numeral 4 indicates a spindle, the lower portion of which is threaded and passes through the lower portion of the burner 1. On the upper extremity of this spindle l- I provide a conical spreader inclicated by the numeral 5, the said spreader being invertibly positioned as indicated diagrammatically. In this spreader I provide a groove illustrated in dotted positionand indicated by the numeral 6. This groove 6 provides a means whereby the operator, with the aid of screw driver, may adjust the spreader, in relation to the conical seat 3. The numeral 7 indicates a wing nut positioned on the spindle 4. The said wing nut is adapted to abut against the lower portion of the burner 1, to rigidly lock the I spreader in position when the same is properly adjusted.
The space between the spreader 5 and the seat 3 can be readily adjusted to adapt the burner for the consumption of any number of cubic feet of gas desired. .l/Vhen adjusted inthe desired position, wing nut 7, threadedly engaged on the spindle 4-. will hold the spreader fixedly in this adjusted position. 7
All other burners, which have been placed on the market, have a limited gas exit and, therefore, when a heavier Volume of gas is to be used, a new burner with a larger opening hasto be installed, while with my construction, the controlling means can be readily adjusted.
In all burners on the market, the exit openings are so constructed that if the con-' .tents inthe cooking utensils boil over, the
of the stove, it will be apparent that the egress of the combustive elements ill disperse with the same. v
YVhile it is believed that from the fore-- going description, thenature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that the same is merely illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, to which I do not limit myself and that such modifications may be resorted to when desired .as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim as new is:
In a burner, a means for controlling the egress of the air'and gas mixture from the said burner, said controlling means consisting of a conical shaped spreader invertibly positioned in the exit of the said burner, a rod having its upper end rigid with said spreader and its lower end screw threaded through the bottom of the body of the burner to form a means for positively spacing said conical shaped spreader in reiation to the exit end of said burner, said conical shaped member having its outer face I Wider than the outer circumference of the said burner and a means for locking said conical shaped member in fixed open and 10 closed position When properly regulated.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses;
JOHN H. 'BEEBY.
