rasees all,
WILLIAM o. TEMPLE,
OI MUNSON, FLORDA.
REENFORCED-CONCRETE RAILROAD TE.
Application filed November To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it kn'own that l, lVILmAM C. TEMPLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Munson, in the county of Santa Rosa 'and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Reentorcetb Concrete Railroad Tie; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has relation to "crossties for railways and relates more part ieularly to ties which are practically indestructible and constructed of concreto or other suitable plastic material, the principal object being to strengthen and reeniorce ties of this nature.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves las the nature of the invention is understood.
lNhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment. of the invention it. is to be understood that in adapting the same to moet different and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing 'from the nature ot' the invention.
Referring to the accomp: ving drawings forming a part ot the application,
Figures vl and .2 are opposite views, respectively, of a reent'orced concrete railroad tie embodying the invention, the rails Figure 3 is a top plan view of the metal reinft'irceinent, the dotted lilies indicating the outline ot' the tie and the bolts for" securing the rails being in section,
Figure l is a vertical section on the line 4-4 of Figure 3, looking in the direction of the arrows, and
Figure l5 is a transverse section on the line 5-45 of Figure 4, looking to the right as designated' by the arrows;
Corresponding and .like parts arel rg. ferred to in the following description and desig natcd inthe several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The numeral l designates the body'of the tie whiclnmay consist' of concrete or ,other plastic material, the same being molded and strengthened by an embedded reinforcef ment. 1
The metal reinforcement comprises longi 1, 1922. Serial No. 598,353.
It will be understood from the foregoing that the tie is strengthened and reentorced and will not come. apart, even though it should crack from any cause. The nuts 6 and the heads of the bolts are disposed outwardly from the plates 2 and being embedded in the material of the tie, prevent side portions ofthe latter scaling and breaking away.
\Vliat is claimed is:
A tie having a concrete body, a frame embedded therein. having longitudinal plates. cross rods spanning-'and extending through and beyomlthe outer-sides of the plates, cross rods having shoulders engaged by the inner sides of the plates, nuts threaded on said cross rods beyond the outer sides of the plates 4and terminating relatively' close. to the sides of the body and'being completely embedded in the body, and
positioning tubes for rail securing bolts disposed through the body at a right angle to saidcross rods, and one of said tubes pas# sing betweenand directly engagng'certain ot' said cross rods. t
In testimony whereof l aflxmy signature in presenceof two Witnesses.
