IMPROVEMENT IN TOY GUNS.

Specification forming pari of Letters Patent No. 146,563., dated January 20, 1874; application filed October 18, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JOI-1N ALEXANDER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, and HIRAM W. GORDON, of Lynn, Essex county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Marble-Shooter, of which the following is a specilication:

Our invention consists of a toy gun, in which a rod or pusher is thrown forward in the barrel by a spring, for expelling marbles and the like, whereof the barrel has a funnelshaped muzzle, in which marbles, pease, or oth er round bodies of diiferent sizes can be held, by friction, in front of the pusher to be expelled, the said marbles andother objects being gently pressed in to secure them.

The invention consists in the arrangement of a locking and tripping spring in connection with the sliding piston, as hereinafter described.

The toy gun or cannon A has a bell or funnel shaped muzzle, G, to adapt it for shooting` marbles or similar objects, the saine being inserted in the mouth and held by friction until the piston is released to forcibly eject them. The cylindrical pist-on D has its front end B reduced to form a shoulder, which shall arrest its forward movement after delivering a blow on the marble or other projectile. The piston is recessed on one side, and a spring, F, is arranged therein, its rear end being curved upward at a right angle, or thereabout, to adapt it to enter a hole, c, in the barrel of the gun, so that when the piston is drawn back by the pin or pins F', it will be arrested and held by The form and arrangement of the spring` E allow it to be struck with a rod or other suit. y

The gun has a removable breech-block, H, which is held in place by friction. Thus, sprin gs of different force may be inserted, according to the kind or size of the missiles to be iired, or a new spring may be inserted when the old one has become weakened or injured.
