Aug. 21, 1923. M65464 J. M. DILLMEIER CASSERGLE HOLDER Original Filed Dec. 9, 1920 ATT RNEW Patented Aug. 21 1923.
' maste T FFEQE.
JOSEPHINE M. DILLMEIEB, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CASSEROLE HOLDER.
Application filed December 9, 1929, Serial No. 429,368. Renewed January 12, 1923.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JosnrHINE M. DILL-' MEIER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented 5 certain new and useful Improvements in Casserole 'Holders; and. I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My present invention is an improvement upon the type of holder covered by Letters Patent No. 1,305,201 issued to me May 27, 1919, in that it contemplates novel means for holding the radial bars in their channel plates.
Figure 1 is a plan showing the formations the holder can be made to assume. Figure 2 is a section on line 22, Figure 3. which latter is a detail in side elevation. Figures 4 to 7 are details.
' As in the patent mentioned, the structure comprises a circular'rigid base 1 having on its under face four channel plates 2 ar- 25 ranged at angles of 90 degrees. A bar 3 is movable in each ofthese channel plates.
According to my present improvements these bars 3 terminate at their outer extremities in upward extending right angular a rms 4. These are attached to the lazy tongs side frame 5 by pins 6 passing through the adjacent middle hinge connection between two of the series of levers constituting the frame.
The structure is equipped with four pe ripheral supporting feet 7. As shown these consist of bars bent back upon themselves to form flat bases 8 and having their upper ends forming handles 9 of appropriate ornamental design. The pins 6 pass through the overlapping portions of the bars and the latter are seeuredtogether by a rivet 10. The central base 1 may also be equipped with a foot 12. Thus the levers of the lazy tongs frame may turn on pins 6 to vary the size and shape of the holder according as the bars 3 are moved in their channel plates.
I make provision for the bars being capable of ready manipulation and yet be secured as against accidental displacement. A shown in Figures t to 7 each plate is formed throughout a portion of its length with a longitudinal slot 13. Its complementary bar 3 has a stud 14 projecting from its under face. The spindle portion of this stud is within the slot 13 and its outer head spans the slot and bears against the adja cent lower face of the channel plate. Thus an 'efiective guide is provided as well as means for preventing the accidental separation of the parts and for limiting the range of adjustment of the bars.
To frictionally retard the movement of the bars I provide the channel plates with spring plate 15 on their under faces. The springs are secured near one end as at 16 and they each carry a friction foot 17 projecting through a hole in the channel plate and into contact with bar 3. ,The tendency of these springs is to bear against the bars sufficiently to allow of manual adjustment while preventing accidental displacement.
I claim as my invention:
1. A casserole holder comprising a cen tral base, a flexible side frame, horizontally extensible bars radiating from said base and terminating at their outer extremities in up ward extending right angular arms. supporting feet adjacent said arms comprising bars bent back upon themselves to form flat bases and having their upper ends fondant-1' handles, and pins passing through said side frame, said arms and said feet.
2. A casserole holder comprising a central base, a flexible side frame. channel plates on said base each having a spring actrmted friction foot, and a bar in. each of said chaunel plates engaged by said friction foot, said 321 being connected to said side frame.
3. A casserole holder comprising a central base, a flexible side frame. channel plates on said base each having a longitudinal slot. a hole in advance of said slot, a spring plate secured to the under face of said channel plate having a friction foot projectine through said hole, and a bar in each of said channel plates engaged by said friction foot and having a stud movable in said slot, said bars being connected to said side frame.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification.
JOSEPHINE M. DILLMEIER.
