DENTURE-ATTACHING DEVICE.

Be it known that I, SAMUEL G. SUPPLEE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Denture-Attaching Device, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a denture attaching device and is similar in some respects to the construction shown in my Patent #1,324,427 6.
It is an object of my invention to provide a denture attaching deviee which may be cheaply constructed and which will serve to frictionally hold a removable denture.
In general, it is the object of my invention to simplify and improve the construction of nileans for holding removable dentures in ace.
p In the preferred form of my invention, I provide a post to be attached to one denturel member and a sleeve to be attached to another denture member and receiving said post. The post is provided with a spring for frictionally engaging the sleeve, and the spring is preferably adjustable to vary the degree of frietional engagement with the inside of the sleeve.
In the drawings, I have shown for illus- .trative purposes only, various forms of my invention.

In Fig. 3, 10 designates a sleeve member Similar to the sleeve members 8 in Fig. `l and the sleeve is preferablyv provided with a slot 11 along one side. The post which is received in the sleeve 10 may comprise an end pin 12 and an outer plate 13 bent around the pin. The blank of the plate 13 which is shown in Fig. 2 is provided with slits substantially in the form of the letter H. When the blank 13 is bent around the pin 12, the parts 14 adjacent one of the slits form spring members to frictionally engage the inside of the sleeve. These spring members are preferably bowed or rounded intermediate their edges as at 15 and the edges 16 are preferably in substantially the same plane as the remainder of the blank. It will thus be seen that the post may be slid into the sleeve member and with the edges 16 in the same plane as the remainder of the blank there will be no shoulders to engage the upper end of the sleeve and prevent the insertion of the post. the post within the sleeve. It will be seen that in the form shown in Fig. 3 a knife blade or other instrument may be inserted between the adjacent edges of the spring members 14 to bend the springs outwardly for adjusting them to vary the degree of friction with the sleeve.
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show a form of my invention differing from that previously described mainl in the form of blank and spring. The s eeve 18 in this case may be similar to the sleeve 10 previously described. The blank 19 is provided with an aperture 20, the same being rectangular in the specific form shown and when the blank 19 is bent around or applied to the pin 21 the aperture 20 will leave the pin exposed intermediate its ends. A separate plate or sleeve spring 22 is applied to the ost in the aper- T e two ends 23 of the spring are relatively close together and this spring as in the previous case may be adjusted Vb inserting an instrument between the en s of the spring. The spring may be set into a recess 31 in the post and the ed es of the spring are prefera ly flush with t e surface of the post so that any projecting edges which would prevent the insertion of the post in the sleeve are avoided.
In Fig. 10 the sleeve 32 is secured in 'a cavity in the tooth as by means of an inlay 33. The post 34 is secured to the removable denture in any suitable manner. If desired the inside of the sleeve may be beveled or humped as at 35 to provide additional friction for the spring.
In each of the posts disclosed, there is a plate or projection extending from one side.
vIt is to be understood that this is merely one means of securing a post to a denture, and the projection may be cut oil to the desired length or dispensed with entirely if desired. Both posts and sleeves may be secured to the dentures in any known or desired manner, and I do not wish to be limited to any particular shape of post and sleeve.

I claim:
1. In a denture attaching device, a sleeve member to be secured to one denture member and open along one side, a post to be secured to another denture member and to fit within said sleeve, and a spring carried by and on the outside of said post and substantially surrounding the latter for frictionally engaging the sleeve, said spring being adjustable to variy7 the degree of frict the sleeve.
2. In a enture attachingr device, a post comprising a pin and a plate for supportin the pin, a sleeve for receiving said post an open alon one side, and a p ate spring carried by sa1d post and partially surrounding the pin for holding the post and sleeve in assembled relation, said spring being adjst'able to vary the frictional engagement tween the post and sleeve.
3. In a denture attaching device a post f member, a sleeve member for receiving said post and open'along one side, and a plate spring carried by said post and partially surrounding .the same, said spring being bowed intermediate its edges and the edges lying in substantially the same plane as the post, said spring being adjustable to .vary the frictional engagement with said sleeve.
4. In a denture attaching device, a sleeve open along one side, a post to be received by said sleeve, and a sprlng carried by and partially surrounding said post and having a part in position to be engaged by an instrument for adjusting the spring to vary the frictional engagement between the spring and sleeve, said spring engaging the inside surface of and being substantially completely within said sleeve when 'the post and sleeve are assembled.
