Application filed 2?,
w it om it may concern known that l, i may C. Gownnn, the "United States, residing at Two the county of hianitowoc and "sconsi have invented a certain 5c mprovement Hangers, of which the following is a iull clear, concise, and exact d c iption.
I ention relates to hangers and sup ting hool-Is tl ieior and has a number or ooicc'ts and advantages in view. The invention, in one aspect, relates to hoolrs and the ct supporting members that are to be ed thereby.
i "ention, in another of its aspects, is
p ricnlar service in filing mechanical drawings and blue prints thereof, though the invention is not to be restricted to any particular use to which it may be put.
The hanger oi? my invention is formed of sheet metal orf other suitable sheet material is inclusive of an offset portion its top side that is adapted for entry within a. hoolr. The hook oi my invention is also formed of sheet metal or other suitable sheet material, the places of engagement of the hook and the offset portion of the hanger conforming to each other in shape, and be ing preferably or concentric curvature. in accordance with some characteristics of the invention the hooks are not to be limited to formation from sheet material. The hooks and hangers be containeo in a filing cabinet in which event the hooks are so closely approached toeach other that the hangers that are therebetween cannot be withdrawn therefrom laterally thereof but are limited to movement longitudinally of the supported edge portions oi the hangers.
The hangers themselves also have novel characteristics of construction, each being inclusive oi a hood slidably mounted thereupon and serving in one position to cover the tops of'the objects that are supported upon pins which are provided upon the hangers, this hood, in an alternative position, serving to clear said objects and pins so thatobjects may be removed from or placed upon the pins to be covered when the hooo is lowered to its normal object covring position.
i will explain my invention more ifully by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred embodiment thereof and in which Fig. l is a "front view of the upper poi ololl of a some hange fi ing cabinet with the hooks s invention in place sectional view on line 1g. is a cross sectional l i is a perspective po non or the hanger, sheets being thcreu on to be supported thereby; j 5 ii ustr ates the structure of Fig. l
n are to supported in p relatiointhc hood he n shown in 1 .a J. 139 E. J clan t: on to clear the ob ect supportis that are upon the hanger.
are parts are indicated by similar char- 1: of reference throughout the diiierent of my invention is formed oi l other suitable sheet material lower hook portion proper 2 that cross section, being preferably a cylinder. The hanger 3 I 1 Ion is also formed of sheet metal or other suitable sheet material and has an offset portion a at its upper end that enters the cool; 2 The offset portion lot the hanger is pre erably of cylindrical shape and of such that it is concentric or cowith the hook por ion 2 when positioned therein. When a filing cabinet is equipped with the hooks and hangers of my invention said heels are desirably so closely approached that the hangers therebetween cannot be removed laterally thereof but must 1 e moved the sizes of the hooks which are preferably open at both ends of each hook and at least at the front end of the cabinet for this purpose.
Each hanger is formed with a hood or canopy that is slidahl mounted upon the hook. Each canopy is preferably also formed of sheet metal or other suitable sheet material and has back portion 6 formed rioht slots 7 that reoeivethe shanks 01 r1 that guide the hood in' its up and d w movements. The hood itselt forms an :eg'ral continuation of the h iii portion 6 as indicated most clearly in 0, whereby tl ere is afforded desired rono wall of the hooc reception of the obends for the reception of portions of the hanger which margin the openings in the upright slots 11 formed in the front wall of the corresponding hood for the reception of the pins. This construction insures maintenance ofthe objects on thepins when the hood is lowered.
The various figures of the drawing, ex-
cepting Fig. 3, illustrate a group of sheets 12, such as blue prints and drawings, formed with holes 13 through which the pins may be passed in position to support said sheets. Where a number of hangers are assembled in the same cabinet, distance pieces 14: are located upon the tops of the hoods and are projected so far forwardly as to keep the front ends of the pins out of engagement with adjacent hangers and the rear ends of the pins upon such adjacent hangers. 7 V V V Certain features not herein claimed form the subject matter of my copending a lication SerialNo. 588.2%, filed Septem'er 14,1922.
While I have herein shown and particularly described the preferred embodiment of my invention I do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction shown as changes may readily be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, but having thus described my invention'I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patout the iollowing:, r V
1. In a hanger, the combination with a plate; of supporting pins projecting from one face of the plate; and a hood slidably mounted npon said plate to be movable up and down and serving, in one position, to cover the tops of objects supported upon said pins, and in an alternative position to clear saidobjects.
2. In a hanger, the combination with a plate; of supporting pins projecting from one face of the plate; and a. hood slidably mounted upon said plate to be movable up and down and having openings in line with and adapted to receive said pins and servinex in one position, to place said openings in position to receive said pins to cover the tops of objects supported upon said pins and v" in analternative position to'clear. said ohects. V
3. In a hanger, the combination with a plate; of supporting pins: pro ecting from t tl l'tlhll'l l one lace OJ. .1e p a e, am: a cot S.1(.. an .5,
mounted upon said plate to be movable up I and down and having openings in line with and adapted to receive said pins and serving in one position, to place said openings in position to receive said pins to cover the'tops of objects supported upon said pins and in un'alternative position to clear said objects, said pins having grooves in their outer ends in which portions of the hood openings are received.
In witness whereof, I hereuntosubscrihe my name this 18th day of November 1)., 1921.
