Description

Allg. 7, 1923. 1,463858 J. H. WANDVE TROLLING SPOON Fi1ed Nov. 29. 1921 Patented Aug. 7, 1923Q PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. WANDVE, O]? KE'IGHIKAN, TERBITOBY JF ALASKJ.
TBOLLIN'G SI'OON'.
Application flled November 29, 1921. Serial 1i'o. 518,525.
T0 all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. WANDVE, citizen of the United Staates, residing at Ketohikan, in the Territory of Alaska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a '11011i11 Spo0n, of which the follo'wing is a. speci cation.
This invention relates to trolling spoons and more particularly to an improved spoon for eflecting a rapid rolling motion of the spoon while it is in use So that the opposite sides of the spoon Will be rapidly exposed in succession.
Another object of the invention is b0 so construct the spoon as t0 efi'ect a rapidly rolling motion in connection wit h an af pearance of flashing light produced by certain serrations and corrugations formed in the surface of the ci1rved portions of the spoon.
Other objects of the invention Will appear upon consideration of the following detail description am]. aceompanying drawings, where1n Figure 1 is a perspective view 0f the spoon constructed in accordance with my invention Fgure 2 is a. longitudinal section through the same,
Figure 3 is a cross section an the line 3-3 of F1 2.
Re erring to the drawings by numerals, the spoon consists of an elon ated plate pointed at each end,. the centra portion. 1 being straight und flat, the end portion 2 being curved upwardly and pointed at its end at wh ich pomt an opening 3 is provided to connect the hook 4.- The curved top end 2 is slightl cup4shaped as will be ii1dmated in Fig. 2 0 the drawing and this cup shaped curved. surface is provnied with diver ng corrugations 5 presenting angular sur wces which will eifect a. varying rays of light flashes by virtue of the light cbanging from one angular surface to another when the troll spoon is being drawn through the water. The opposite end 6 of the spoon 1 is curved in the opposite direction to that of the curved end 2 und is also proVided with a swivel oonnection 7 whemby the line may be wnnected. The curved end 6 is slightly lese in width than the end 5 und is curved downwardly as froxn t he upwardly curved end 2 and is provided with the corrugations which presns fs;he angular surfaces in the same manner as at the opposite end.
In addition 110 the corrugations, cus 01? circular shaped depressions 8 and 9 am p10- vided, one being pressed inwardly and the other outwardly in the opposibe direction, the depression 9 a the end 2 being pressed outwardly in ehe said direction. as the nutwardly pressed curve of the end 2, while the depression 8 is PIGSSBd outwardly in the irection of the autwardly pressed curve of tha end 6. These depressions form irregular surfaces 011 the plate Which in addition to the angular surfaces provided by the 001- ugati0ns will causa a series of light flashes to occur when the troll is being drawn through the water and sinc6 the troll is curved and shaped in the manner described it will have a rapidly rolling mot ion to eifectively attract the fish toward the spoon.
'Minor changes may be made in the detail 01': construction without; departing from the spirit of the invention o1 the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
What is claimed is:- v
A trolling spoon of the character described comprising an elongated plate having its central intermediate portion straight, the ends of said platze being pointed und curved in opposite directions, each of said curved ends being rovided with diverging corrugationg exten ing from the terminals of the central straight portion, a cupshaped depression formed m the straight portion at t-he base of the corrugations at each curved end, said cupshaped depressions being formed inopposite directions so that the cupshaped de l'essi0ns will cooperate with the corruga.t ends to give the spoon a rollin motion and to ive a series o;f flashing l'g%1is during turnmg of same, und said spoon having a hook connected on one end and means for connecting the opposite Curved end of the spoon t0 a line.
In testimon whereof I have aflixed my Signature in t e presence of two witnesses.
. JOHN H. WANDVE. Wim:
