TEMPORARY BINDER 0B, LOOSE-SHEET HOE 13m.
Application filed June 10, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. WIeorN- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Kalamazoo, State of ltlichigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders or Loose-Sheet Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders or loose sheet holders.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved temporary binder or loose sheet holder which is well adapted for the holding of sheets and circu-v lars, such as those of loose leaf catalogs and in which the sheets are securely bound and at the same time readily accessible.
Second, to provide an improved loose leaf holder in which the parts are formed so that they can be manufactured in the knockdown and the parts assembled as desired with covers and backs of sizes and materials to suit the particular purchaser.
Third, to provide an improved loose sheet holder having these advantages which is very economical in its parts and which at the same time is efficient in use and attractive in appearance. I
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a rear perspective view of a loose sheet binder embodying the features of my invention. 4
Fig. II is an enlarged detail view partially in section on a plane corresponding to line 2-2 of Figs. I and III.
Fig. III is an enlarged detail view partially in section on a plane corresponding to line 3-3 of Figs. I and II.
Fig. IV is a detail sectional view corresponding to that of Fig. III of a slightly modified embodiment of my invention or improvements, a sectional sheet-engaging post being provided.
Fig. V is a rear perspective view of the Seriai No. 476,417.
shezit body with the post bars engaged there- W1 Fig VI is a detail sectional view corresponding to that of Fig. IV with the back members omitted.
Fig. VII is a perspective view of one of the post bars.
Fig-VIII is a detail the binding bars.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional viewsare taken looking in the direction of the little arrows atthe ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, I provide a pair of cover members 1 provided with bars 1' at their rear edges, the bars being connected to the cover members proper by the hinge portions 3.
The detachable telescoping back members 4 are angle-shaped and are adapted to be arranged on the outside of the cover members as shown in Fig. IV. These are independent and telescope in the embodiment shown so as to be adaptable to various widths of sheet body, and when the limit of a particular back has been passed another back may be substituted.
The binding bars 5 are provided with coupling members which, in the structure illustrated, comprise the sections 6 and 7 threaded for adjustment, the sections 6 being pivoted to the ends of one of the binding bars at 8, the heads 9 of the sections 7 being engageable with the slots 10 in the ends of the other binding bar. These binding bars perspective view of iii) are also detachable or independent oi": the
other parts described.
The detachable post bars 2 are provided with sheet engaging posts '12 adapted to engage holes 13 in the sheets 14. "Each of the post bars is provided with posts, the posts sheet. body. However, in view of the interlapping relation of the posts on the two post bars a very considerable variation in the sheet body is possible Without afiecting the binding action of the posts.
My improved binder parts are very economical to produce and may be quickly and readily assembled, the binding and the backs being varied as may be desired.
My improved loose sheet binder is especially adapted for catalogs and'like uses although it may be adapted for various- 1n assembled relation by said binding bars,
other uses.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure bv Letters Patent, is
1. In a loose leaf binder, the combination of independent cover members, detachable angle-shaped telescoping back members, detachable binding bars, said cover members,
back members and binding bars having aligned holes, detachable'post, bars provided with sheet-engaging posts and with outwardly projecting pins engaging said aligned holes in said cover members, back members and. bindingbars whereby they are detachably retained in assembled relation, and means for detachably connecting said binding bars disposed-at vthe ends-thereof.
2. In aloose leaf hinder, the combination of cover members, detachable binding bars, said'cover members and binding bars having aligned holes, detachable post bars provided with -'sl1eet-engaging posts and with out- 'wardly projecting .pins .-engaging said aligned holes in said cover members and binding bars whereby they are detachably retained in assembled relation, and means I for detachably connecting said binding bars bars, the other being slot-ted to receive the. same, said coupling members comprising sections threaded for adjustment.
4. In a loose leaf binder, the combination of cover members, detachable binding bars, post bars provided with sheet-engaging posts and with means fordetachably engaging said bars with said cover members, back members and binding bars, and binding bar coupling members pivotally mounted at the ends of one of the; binding bars, the other being slotted to rece1vc the same, said con-- pling members comprising sections threadedv for adjustment.
5. In a loose leaf binder, the combination of independentcover members, detachable pling means detac aaeneea binding bars and post bars having coengaging parts whereby they are detachably held and means for detachably connecting said binding bars.
7. In a loose leaf binder, the combination with cover members, of detachable transfer bars each'having sheet-engaging posts, and
cover and binding bar engaglng means, and
detachable bindin bars provided with coubinding bars.
. 8. In a loose leaf binder, the combination covers'and binding bars.
9. In a loose leaf binder, the combination with cover members, of detachable transfer bars each havmg sheet-engaging posts and cover and binding bar engaging means, and
detachable binding bars provided with couably engaging one of the and: said pling means detachably engaging one ofthe' binding bars, said coupling means being extensible. a
10. In a loose leaf binder, the combination with cover members of detachable transfer" bars each having sheet-engaging posts and cover and binding bar engaging means, and
detachable binding bars provided with cou pling and adjusting means.
11. In a loose-leaf binder, the combination of cover members, telescoping back members, detachable transfer bars provided with sheet engaging posts, and binding bar's, said cover members, back members, transfer bars and binding-bars being providedwith 00- engaging, means whereby they are detachably held in assembled a relation when the binding bars are clamped thereon.
12. In a;loose. leaf binder, the combination with the cover members,-of a pair ofdetachable transfer bars provided with. sheet-engaging posts, binding bars, said covers,
transfer bars and binding bars being pro- GEORGE PJW IGGINTON.
