Description
R. W. STONE TOOL Juy i0, 1923.
Filed Jan. 24 1922 INVENTOR Patented July l, 1923.'
REGINALD W. STONE, OF
iai,
IPASADENA, CALIFORNIA.
i TOOL.
To @ZZ fro/wm t may concern.'
Be it known that I, REGINALD W. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tools, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a scraper tool for removing carbon deposits from internal combustion engines.
My object is to produce a tool of this character comprising a handle portion having at one end a. straight scraper blade and at its other end a concaved or spoon-shaped scraper element and by the use of which carbon deposits can be easily and quickly removed from straight surfaces or from concavities such as the depressions in the cylinder head of the engine.
The drawing which accompanies and which forms part of this speciiication, illustrates a satisfactory embodiment of the improvement, and wherein Figure l is a plan view,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation,
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. l, and Y Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view on line 1f- 4: of Fig. 2.4
While my improvement is primarily devised as a scraper for removing carbon deposits from internal combustion engines, it is to be understood that the improvement is not to be thus restricted in its useful application, as the same may be successfully employed as a scraper in other connections.
As disclosed by the drawings, my improvement is a unitary structure, comprising a fiat substantially rectangular handle portion l which is milled or roughened upon both its faces and its edges. The handle preferably has its corners rounded, and is widened and provided with a reduced extension from one of its ends which is indicated by the numeral 2. This extension is in the nature of a blade, and both its sides and ends are sharpened. The extension is also provided with a hexagon opening 3 which is designed to serve as a wrench for engaging sparkplug electro locking nuts, and the timer nuts on certain classes of cars. The blade is of a thickness approximately l/32 of an inch, so that the same serves as a gage for setting spark-plug points. The knife portion of the device may be employed for scraping the valve port-s, engine heads, cylinder heads, or any other part of an automobile having carbon deposits thereon or which has become rusty. The knife may be also employed for removing gaskets from the joints, as well as for scraping parts to be soldered and for removing paint.
The opposite end of the handle is narrowed inwardly to provide the neck portion 4- of a spoon-like scraper 5. The spoon-like scraper, in the present instance, is of a particular and peculiar construction, the same having its outer edges concaved and its under face convex, and the said spoon terminates in an upwardly extending point 6. The upper edges 7 of the spoon are sharpened and serve as Scrapers, and from its said edges 7 the sides of the spoon are thickened and beveled from the edges 7 and from the convex under face sharpened scraper edges 8.
The sharpened scraping edges 7 and 8 of the spoon-like end of the device are employed for removing carbon deposits from concavities in the cylinder head but, of course, may be employed for other purposes.
It is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will fully set forth the construction and advantages of the improvement, .and that further detailed description will not be required.
Having described the invention, I claim A scraper tool, comprising a substantially rectangular body which is milled and which has its corners rounded, said body having one of its ends widened and formed with a reduced extension whose edges and end are sharpened, said handle having its opposite end provided with a reduced portion terminating in a spoon-shaped extension, the outer end of the spoon-shaped extension being pointed, its upper edges sharpened and its sides integrally formed with sharpened scraping edges.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
