BOOKRACK.
l Application led July 1K7, 1922.l Serial No. 575,731.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LUTHER DoYLn CADEN- HEAD, a citizen of theV United States of America, residing at McKinney, inthe county of Collin and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Bookrack, of which Y the following is a specification. .y
` The invention relates Ato a book rack., which, when placed on a table, desk, or any flat surface, will havetwo upright braces.
These braces canbe moved toward or from on the accompanying drawing' in which Fig-vr ureV l is a side View; Fig. 2 is azview'from above. Fig. 3 is a view of the stationary book brace as shown from along line 3 3; Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross section along the line 4 4, Fig. 2; Fig. 5 a view of -the`moveable book brace as shown from along theline 55, Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a view shown from along line 6 6;-Fig. 2. v
The stationary book brace-1 is heldperpendicular and rigidly tothe stationary longitudinal side parts 3 3 by the angle brace 2. rllhe longitudinal side parts 3 3, are placed parallel and far enough apart sothat the longitudinal central part 5 can be moved easily between them and in the same plane. A brace 4, made so as to lit in the grooves in the longitudinal side parts 3 3 (see Fig.` 4), is placed on one end of 'the` longitudinal central part 5 so as to hold it between and lin the same plane of the longitudinal side parts 3 3 when it is slid` between them. The two bars 10 10 help to hold the two longitudinal side parts in a rigid parallel position and alsoV help to hold the longitudinal central part 5 between the side parts 3 3 and in the same plane.
The moveable book brace -6 is held to the longitudinal central partY 5 by Aa brace 8 which is fastened to the book brace 6 andk Vtits over the 'tongues on the longitudinal center part 5 (see Fig. 5) so that it can be easily slid along the central part 5. The
hinge brace V'7 is fastened to the book brace 6 i and-one--endvworks in a ratchet 9 Y i Y set in a groove inthe center of the longitudinal center part'. This hingejbrace 7aids in holding the inoveablebook brace 6 in a Y rigid vertical position, when desired.
i'heninuse the books or peridicals are 1 to be placed on their edge and between the stationary book brace l and the moveable book Ybrace 6. The moveable` book brace6 can be moved toward or fromthe stationarjr` book brace l, so as to-it the various number of books, bysliding the longitudinal central part 5, on Vwhich the moveable book,` brace 6 is attached, to the right or left'as desired .(theV rack being in the position4 shown in i `l or Fig. 2), or by moving the move` Y able book brace 6 along the 'longitudinal cent-.aparta f The moveable book brace-6 can be moved center part 5' to the left until its right end to the right of the braceslO l() (the invention being in the position` shown by Fig. l
VKor Fig. 2) byirst moving the longitudinal Y 75 A 'i is ata convenient distance to the left of they 'i braces 10 Vl0, then the book'brace 6 is rec moved fromthe longitudinal center' part 5 at itsrright end.. The center part 5 is then slid to the right until its ,right end is at'the desired distance to the right of the bars 10e- VlOand the inoveableboolrbrace 6 is replaced on the longitudinal'center'part 5 at itsright end, l Y Y I am aware that 'priori to my invention bool: racksehave been made similar to mvk inventioninasmuch as one book brace -was yfastened stationary to two vside parts similar to the longitudinal side parts 3 3 of myVV invention but the other' boo-k brace was i fastened stationary to a center part similar to the'longitudinal center part 5 of my in-l vention; but i I claim-:
An adjustable. ibook rack comprisingfavV base vcomposed of two sections, slidably connected, andtwo end walls, one'end wallbe-Y ,I ing rigidly connected to an end of one of l the sections, the other end wall being slidably connected to the other section yforad-` V,justment ,therealong and means for holding Y the said end wall againstladjustment on the said section.
