T 0 all w from, it may concern Be it known that I, ERNEST L. BROOME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tarrytown, in the county of Nest'chester' and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Detachable Cigar Band, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a cigar band, and more particularly to detachable cigar bands or the like. K 1

The primary object of the. invention is the provision of a band of this character, wherein the band is fastened about the cigar with the use of a substance, such as paste or gum, which is sensitive to heat at a low temperature, so that the heat which exists in the lighted cigar will cause the substance to melt, before the fire reaches the band, and the band to be detached or become automatically freed fromthe cigar, to theend that the wrapper of the cigar will not become damaged, which would result from the detachment of the said band by! the fingers of the hand of the smoker, asis usual.

There are various other objects and advantagesof this invention besides the above and all of which will be hereinafter more fully or particularly brought out in the following specific description of the present embodiment of the invention, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cigar showing a band applied thereto in accordance with the invention,

Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the ends of the band separated;

Figure 3 is an inner plan view of the band per se, showing the substance applied to one end thereof.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.

Referring to .this drawing in detail, A designates generally a cigar'which is made in the usual manner and of any ordinary well known shape, and B the band which is usually made from paper and cut in any desirable shape. The band at one endthereof has a coating 5 such as paraflin, gum, or other substance which is sensitive to heat and is adhesive, the end with the coating 5 being initially fastened to the other end of the band to secure it about the body DETACHABLE, CIGAR BAND.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction and manner of application of the invention will be clearly understood, and

therefore a more extended explanation has r been omitted. What is claimed is 1. The combination with a cigar, of a band, and a substance sensitive to heat at a low? temperature for fastening the band upon the cigar, said substance being melted when subjected to heat from the cigar when lighted.

2. A cigar band secured to the cigar by substance sensitiv to heat, whereby the band willbecome detached from the cigar when lighted in advance of the time that the fire reaches the band. v
