V. G. MATRE June 19? T923.
POCKET HOLY WATER FOUNTAIN Filed Nov.

Vi mr E METTE Patented June 19, 1923.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VICTOR G. MATRE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T0 MATRE & COMPANY, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
POCKET HOLY-WATER FOUNTAIN.
Application filed November 1, 1921. Serial No. 512,002. I
T o all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I. Vic'ron G. MA'IIIE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of' Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket floly-VVater Fountains; and I do hereby declare .that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention is a device for carrying holy water conveniently from place to place. llitherto, in the carrying ofv holy water, difficulties have been encountered by reason of the objectionable dimensions of the receptacle which bulge out the pockets and sometimes becomes leaky resulting in a partial or entire loss of the fluid.
Again, the receptacles hitherto employed are sometimes entirely lost.
My invention contemplates a construction best adapted for purposes of portability, so dimensioned as not to bulge out the pockets and of such character as would more readily prevent its being lost.
My structure is especially adapted to prevent leakage, is neat in appearance, resembling a fountain pen, and is simple to manufacture.
My structure is also especially adapted by reason of the character of exit orifices to facilitate the dispensing of the holy Water in a desired quantity.
Other objects of my invention will appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which, l
Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view, and
lFigure'2 is a horizontal cross section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Elongated hollow cylindrical reservoir 10,
having a smaller diameter at portion 11, the.
walls of which portion are relatively thin, is provided with inwardly directed screw threads 12, adapted to receive a nipple 13 of cap 14 provided with apertures 15.
An annular flange portion of cap 14 rests upon the top of reservoir 10. A gasket or pad 16 composed of any such substance, as rubber or cork, is fitted against the top portion 17 of thimble 18. having screw threaded engagen'ient at 19 with reservoir 10.
It is apparent that rotation of thimble 18 causes va travel thereof in the direction of the longitudinal axis of reservoir 10 which results in a compression of pad 1G against cap 14, or the removal of said pad from said cap.
It is apparent that a ready means of assembling thimble 18 with reservoir 10 is provided by reason of the reduced diameter of portion 11. An annular cylindrical space is provided into which a bead 21 is forced when pad 1G is compressed. The formation. of this bead tends to strengthen the device as it tends to prevent lateral movement of the top of reservoir 10 in thimble 18.
In using the device, a cap 14 is unscrewed, the fluid is poured into reservoir 10, the cap is replaced in position and thimble 18 is screwed into position causing pad 16 to cover apertures 15, thereby effectively preventing all danger of escape of the fluid.
When it is desired to dispense the contents, thimble 18 is removed and the fluid is emitted by shaking the reservoir.
This structure has all the conveniences of ordinary fountain pen structures, and a clip, such as is used in carrying a fountain pen, might be employed with the device to facilitate 4carrying and prevent loss. The various parts of the device may be constructed of material commonly employed for fountain pens. Y
I claim: y
A pocket fountain comprising an elongated, cylindrical receptacle, having an open end, a thimble threaded therein and having a plurality of apertures therethrough, an elongated, cylindrical cap threaded to said receptacle vat a point spaced considerably from the end of said receptacle and a yieldable pad in said cap at the closed end .th-ereof, contacting with said thimble and closing said aperture.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in
the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
